Marc Rzepczynski (biceps) is scheduled to pitch an inning on Thursday against the Yankees. The left-hander has been shut down for the past couple of days because of a sore biceps muscle, but it was never a major concern in Cardinals camp. "Scrabble" has ample time to get properly tuned up for the start of the season.

Marc Rzepczynski will not throw for the next couple of days because of a sore biceps. Rzepczynski told reporters Monday in Cardinals camp that he experiences some level of biceps fatigue every spring and that he should ultimately be fine. The 27-year-old left-hander posted an underwhelming 4.24 ERA in 70 appearances last season for the Cardinals.

Cardinals avoided arbitration with LHP Marc Rzepczynski by agreeing to a one-year contract. The financials of the deal are not yet known, but $1.1 million was the midpoint when figures were exchanged last month. Rzepczynski, who was arbitration-eligible for the first time, posted a 4.24 ERA and 33/17 K/BB ratio over 46 2/3 innings last season.

Marc Rzepczynski requested $1.1 million and was offered $900,000 from the Cardinals when arbitration figures were exchanged Friday. Rzepczynski is arbitration-eligible for the first time after posting a 4.24 ERA and 33/17 K/BB ratio over 46 2/3 innings last season. With such a small gap between the two sides, look for common ground to be found in the coming days.

The Cardinals are expected to re-sign Marc Rzepczynski. Rzepczynski is arbitration-eligible for the first time and wasn't considered a lock to return. Cardinals GM John Mozeliak said he doesn't anticipates non-tendering anyone this offseason. Rzepczynski, Jason Motte, Mitchell Boggs, Edward Mujica, and David Freese will all be brought back.

MLB.com's Jenifer Langosch lists Marc Rzepczynski as a non-tender candidate. Rzepczynski made $504,000 in 2012 and is arbitration-eligible for the first time this winter. Langosch also believes that right-hander Kyle McClellan is a non-tender possibility.

Derrick Goold of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch reports that part of the reason the Cardinals were "intrigued" about adding Marc Rzepczynski was because of his past as a starter. Rzepczynski will pitch in the later innings for the Cards this season, as he made his debut Thursday with two scoreless innings in the seventh and eighth, striking out four. But, it sounds like his future could be as a member of the rotation. Rzepczynski had some success in spurts as a starter with the Jays and boasted a 3.44 ERA and 9.5 K/9 rate in the minors. He also would seem to fit in well with pitching coach Dave Duncan due to his groundball tendencies, as he holds a 1.9 GB/FB ratio in his career.

Cardinals acquired LHP Marc Rzepcynzki from the Blue Jays in the Colby Rasmus deal. Rzepcynzki has pitched exclusively in relief with the Blue Jays this season, posting a 2.97 ERA and 33/15 K/BB ratio over 39 1/3 innings this season. The 25-year-old southpaw has held left-handed batters to a .247/.203/.450 batting line. With a career ground ball rate north of 50 percent, "Scrabble" could be an interesting name to watch in fantasy leagues if he eventually gets a shot as a starter in St. Louis.
