Kyle Farnsworth (elbow) struck out two in a scoreless inning Tuesday in his first rehab appearance with Triple-A Durham. Marc Topkin of the Tampa Bay Times notes that he was "hitting 96 mph with his fastball and getting sharp break on his slider." Farnsworth is scheduled to pitch again Wednesday and could rejoin the Rays' bullpen as soon as Saturday. While the veteran right-hander thrived as the closer last year, he's likely to return as a set-up man due to the emergence of Fernando Rodney.

Kyle Farnsworth (elbow) will make a third rehab appearance Monday night at High-A Charlotte. Farnsworth has yielded just one hit in two innings of relief thus far for the Stone Crabs. The right-hander remains on track to return to the Rays' bullpen by the end of June, though it will likely be in a setup role. Fernando Rodney has a 1.14 ERA in 31 2/3 innings this year for Tampa Bay and is 19-for-20 in save opportunities.

Kyle Farnsworth (elbow) is aiming to return to the Rays' bullpen for the June 28 series against the Tigers. Farnsworth made his first rehab appearance Monday and expects to need 5-6 more before returning. "The arm strength is still not there, but that will eventually come," Farnsworth said.

Kyle Farnsworth (elbow) tossed a scoreless inning Monday in his first rehab appearance with High-A Charlotte. Farnsworth, out all season with a strained right elbow, needed just five pitches to get through the inning. "Everything felt good today," said Farnsworth. "I was just trying to get my mechanics in order and just be aggressive in the strike zone... I was a little bit nervous and that's good. I've still got the competitive fire." It's not known how long he'll spend in the minors, but with Fernando Rodney doing an excellent job in the closer role, the Rays don't need to rush him back.

Kyle Farnsworth (elbow) will begin a rehab assignment with High-A Charlotte Monday. He's been out all season with a strained right elbow, so he'll probably require at least a handful of rehab appearances. With Fernando Rodney taking hold of the closer job, Farnsworth will come back in a setup role when he's deemed ready.

Kyle Farnsworth (elbow) threw to hitters Wednesday at Tropicana Field. The session went off without a hitch. It's not clear when Farnsworth, who has been out all season with a strained right elbow, will begin a rehab assignment. Rays transferred RHP Kyle Farnsworth from the 15-day disabled list to the 60-day disabled list. Farnsworth is still making his way back from an early-April elbow strain. He's aiming to being throwing soon, but the right-hander won't be eligible to return until June 5. Fernando Rodney has a real opportunity to run away with ninth-inning duties.

Kyle Farnsworth (elbow) estimated Friday that he could begin to throw in a week. Farnsworth was placed on the disabled list two weeks ago with a right elbow strain, but he said Friday that the inflammation is gone from the area. While this is encouraging news, it's unlikely he returns until sometime in May. Fernando Rodney is 4-for-4 in save opportunities thus far and should continue to fill in for Farnsworth.

Kyle Farnsworth (elbow) is expected to be sidelined 4-6 weeks. It's a little longer than we were anticipating, but it could be worse. Rays manager Joe Maddon said he'll use a committee at closer until Farnsworth returns, unless someone steps up. Joel Peralta would be the best guess to claim the job outright, but Fernando Rodney and J.P. Howell are among the other possibilities.

Kyle Farnsworth said Wednesday than an MRI on his elbow showed only a strain. Farnsworth isn't sure how long he'll be sidelined, but it doesn't sound like a serious injury. Either way, he will begin the season on the 15-day disabled list. Rays manager Joe Maddon is likely to go with a closer-by-committee with the closer role, but Joel Peralta is the one to target in mixed leagues. Fernando Rodney and J.P. Howell are among the other possibilities.
