Uehara (shoulder) left Tuesday's game with an apparent shoulder injury, Sean McAdam of Comcast Sports Net reports.
EDGE Analysis
Uehara only tossed seven pitches during the ninth inning of Tuesday's game, and was grabbing his shoulder after the last pitch. The 41-year-old waived out the trainers and left the contest shortly after. With Craig Kimbrel on the disabled list with a knee injury, Uehara has been taking on the role of closing games, which would likely fall to Brad Ziegler if Uehara needs to miss any significant time.

Uehara recorded his sixth save with a clean ninth inning in Saturday's 5-2 victory over the Yankees. He also recorded a strikeout.
EDGE Analysis
The 41-year-old interim reliever made quick work of the Yankees in the ninth, needing a scant seven pitches to retire Alex Rodriguez, Brian McCann and Mark Teixeira. Uehara continues to do an admirable job in Craig Kimbrel's (knee) stead, and is expected to continue piling up the save opportunities if his current level of performance holds up.

Uehara notched his fifth save with a scoreless ninth inning in Friday's 5-3 victory over the Yankees. He also recorded a strikeout.
EDGE Analysis
The 41-year-old closer put together his second straight scoreless outing, and fourth in six July appearances. Uehara has now converted three straight save opportunities as the primary replacement for the sidelined Craig Kimbrel (knee), and figures to continue in the role as long he's able to maintain his current level of efficacy.

Uehara has been named Boston's closer, Meredith Perri of Mass Live reports. "Koji's our closer," manager John Farrell said after Uehara closed out Saturday's win over the Tampa Bay Rays.
EDGE Analysis
It was natural to wonder if the recently acquired Brad Ziegler, who has closing experience in Arizona, would emerge as the fill-in while Craig Kimbrel's knee injury keeps him out three-to-six weeks. Farrell put an end to that speculation, but indicated Ziegler will get opportunities whenever Uehara is unavailable, which is a possibility Sunday after Uehara threw 33 pitches to close out games Friday and Saturday.

Uehara pitched a scoreless ninth inning while allowing one hit and striking out two to earn his fourth save of the year Saturday against the Rays.
EDGE Analysis
With Craig Kimbrel (knee) placed on the disabled list Saturday, Uehara converted his second save in two days. This was the first time in his last three outings that he's held an opponent scoreless, and his ERA is 4.81 on the year.

Uehara notched his third save in Friday's 6-5 win over the Rays, allowing an earned run on one hit while also recording a strikeout.
EDGE Analysis
The veteran reliever made things interesting by surrendering a 387-foot homer to Evan Longoria in the ninth, but was able to escape without further damage to secure the save. Uehara has been supplanted by Craig Kimbrel in the closer's role, but is still able to come in and slam the door on occasion. He's converted three of five save opportunities this season, while also being credited with 12 holds.

Uehara picked up his second save of the season, striking out the side in Friday night's 8-7 win over Texas.
EDGE Analysis
Just two days ago, Uehara was the goat in an 8-6 loss to the White Sox, a game in which he allowed two homers and three runs in two-thirds of an inning. But with Craig Kimbrel unavailable Friday, it was the shaky Uehara putting the bow on an incredible comeback win for Boston, who had trailed 6-0 after three innings. The Red Sox's four-run ninth inning put them in a position to rely on Uehara, and he performed in vintage Koji-style, using his fall-off-the-table splitter to retire the Rangers.

Uehara (2-3) was smacked around for four hits (two of them homers) and three runs while recording just two outs in the eighth inning Wednesday in a loss against the White Sox.
EDGE Analysis
He blew Eduardo Rodriguez's win with a hideous performance, but on the bright side, both of Uehara's outs came via the strikeout. Uehara's whiffed a show-stopping 21 batters in his last 10.1 innings, but thanks to his occasional implosions -- which seem to nearly always feature home runs -- the Japanese veteran owns an ugly 4.78 ERA for the season. Nonetheless, he remains a solid source of holds and should bring that ERA back in line with his 1.10 WHIP in due time.

Uehara allowed two runs on one hit and one walk while striking out two in two-thirds of an inning in Friday night's loss to the Blue Jays.
EDGE Analysis
A split-fingered fastball that usually falls off the table didn't have its typical finish and Devon Travis jumped on it for a two-run homer. Of late, Uehara's splitter is staying in the zone, the main culprit in an 8.53 ERA and three homers allowed over the previous seven appearances. "The split has been inconsistent," manager John Farrell told the Providence Journal. "There's been times where he's had quality, consistent finish to it. Tonight was not one of them." Much of Uehara's effectiveness is predicated on the splitter; it sets up his fastball.

Uehara threw a perfect inning in the 11th inning Sunday to pick up his first save of the year, striking out two.
EDGE Analysis
Uehara got the nod because closer Craig Kimbrel threw 39 pitches the previous day and was unavailable.
