ESPN's Buster Olney writes that the Cubs could wait until the August waiver period to deal Kevin Gregg. Gregg was looking like a decent trade chip for a while, but he has hit a wall recently. The Cubs could wait to see if a need develops somewhere down the road, but he only figures to fetch a lower level prospect anyway.

Kevin Gregg blew his fourth save of the season in Tuesday's loss to the Brewers. He allowed a pair of runs on three hits and a walk. After a surprisingly good start, Gregg has predictably fallen back, as he's been scored upon in eight of his last 17 appearances and has a 12/14 K/BB ratio over that time. He's still probably getting traded, but the Cubs won't get much in return.

Kevin Gregg worked a scoreless ninth inning to earn his 22nd save on Sunday against the Giants. He struck out one and walked a batter. Gregg owns a nice 2.68 ERA and 1.31 WHIP, but has posted a dreadful 36/20 K/BB rate over 40 1/3 innings. Chicago is hoping to cash him in for a prospect or two in the next 72 hours. If that happens, Pedro Strop, who hasn't allowed a run as a Cub, would likely be moved to the ninth.

Despite loading the bases in the ninth, Kevin Gregg earned his 21st save on Saturday. Gregg gave up a single and back-to-back walks with one out before inducing a Tony Abreu 3-2-3 double play to end the 1-0 game. Gregg came on after Pedro Strop pitched a scoreless eighth, which earned him his first win as a Cub after Nate Schierholtz homered in the top of the ninth. Gregg is 21-for-24 saving games.

Kevin Gregg picked up his 20th save Friday as the Cubs edged the Giants 3-2. The Cubs scored two runs on a Brandon Belt error in the top of the ninth, and Gregg made the 3-2 lead stand up from there. Gregg blew his previous save chance on Wednesday, but he's still 20-for-23 for the season. One figures that the Cubs would love to get a prospect in return for him by the trade deadline. If it happens, they can move on to Pedro Strop in the ninth.

Kevin Gregg blew his third save of the season by allowing a run on three hits and three walks on Wednesday against the Diamondbacks. He required 40 pitches to complete the appearance and may need Thursday off, which might give James Russell or Pedro Strop a save chance in the next 24 hours. In the ninth, Gregg gave up two singles, a walk and a Cody Ross sacrifice fly that sent the game into extra-innings. In the tenth, Gregg loaded the bases and wriggled free from the jam. Gregg, who has allowed 10 runs over his last 13 appearances to spike his ERA from 0.77 to 2.89, is regressing right in front of our eyes.

Kevin Gregg danced around a double and a walk in tossing a scoreless ninth inning and earning his 18th save Friday against the Rockies. Nobody was more relieved than Chicago's front office. Gregg entered the game having allowed nine runs over his last 10 appearances, spiking his ERA from 0.77 to 2.97 and damaging his trade value. Gregg never was going to sustain that level of success, and his struggles may end up a blessing for fantasy owners; Gregg's regression toward the mean may end up keeping him on Chicago's roster and in the ninth inning.

Kevin Gregg allowed a run on a pair of walks and a single against the Cardinals on Saturday, but managed to escape with his 17th save of the season. What many would've deemed unthinkable at the beginning of the season, Kevin Gregg has once again established himself as a reliable closer. He has now converted 17 of his 19 save opportunities on the season while posting a stellar 1.95 ERA, 1.08 WHIP and 35/13 K/BB ratio in 32 1/3 innings. Unfortunately for fantasy owners, being as dominant as he has been has done nothing but increase his trade value, making in increasingly likely that he'll be dealt before the trade deadline, and most likely to a team where he would serve in a setup role.

Kevin Gregg blew his second save of the season on Sunday against the Pirates. Nursing a 3-2 lead in the ninth inning, Gregg coughed up a solo homer to Starling Marte. Gregg also walked a batter and struck out two, escaping the frame with no further damage inflicted. Chicago went on to win in the 11th inning. Gregg, 15-for-17 in save conversions, still owns a spectacular 1.78 ERA and 33/10 K/BB rate in 30 1/3 total innings this season and is not in danger of losing his job as the Cubs' closer.
