Kevin Gregg took his sixth loss after giving up a ninth-inning homer in a tie game Monday against the Pirates. Gregg was doing just fine as a closer, but now that he's out of the role, he's entering tie games and taking losses. He should no longer be on fantasy rosters anyway.

The Cubs have decided against releasing Kevin Gregg, with Theo Epstein noting that his apology has been accepted. Chalk this one up as a big misunderstanding and an overreaction on Gregg's part. The 35-year-old hurler is still unlikely to see any save opportunities for the remainder of the season as the team wants to get a look at Pedro Strop in high-leverage situations in the ninth inning.

Kevin Gregg apologized to Theo Epstein, Dale Sveum, the Cubs organization and to the members of the media in the press box on Friday, for voicing his displeasure on Friday. Apparently, it was one big misunderstanding. Gregg though that he was being replaced as the team's closer, which irked the veteran right-hander after how well he's pitched this season. What they are actually doing, is using the last few games to get a look at Pedro Strop in the ninth inning to see how he responds, not simply booting Gregg out of the role. Gregg also noted that Epstein is a "smart man" and wouldn't have a knee-jerk reaction like Gregg did. We'll see how it plays out on Saturday, but it sounds like he may avoid the guillotine.

The Cubs are considering releasing Kevin Gregg, after voicing his displeasure to the media after Friday's loss to the Braves. Kevin Gregg complained to the media after the Cubs decided to go with Pedro Strop as their closer for the final week and a half of the season to see what they have. Theo Epstein said that he would sleep on the decision, but there's a chance that Gregg has thrown his last pitch in a Cubs uniform.

Coming on in a tie game, Kevin Gregg gave up four runs after an intentional walk in the ninth to take his fifth loss Friday against the Braves. The Cubs put Freddie Freeman on with a man on second and one out, setting up the double play. That never came, though. Gregg is expected to take a backseat to Pedro Strop for save chances the rest of the way. Strop, though, was taken out after retiring both batters he faced in the tie game today.

Kevin Gregg collected his 28th save of the season Saturday in the Cubs' 4-3 defeat of the Phillies. Gregg gave up a two-out single to Michael Young but got Jimmy Rollins to ground out to end the threat in the top of the ninth inning at Wrigley Field. The veteran righty has struggled with his command in the second half of this season but will remain valuable in fantasy leagues as long as he continues to get regular save opportunities.

Kevin Gregg took his fourth loss after giving up a run in a tie game Friday against the Phillies. Gregg's 3.23 ERA remains just fine, but his K/BB ratio has gone from 35/13 in 33 1/3 innings in the first half to 9/14 in 19 2/3 innings in the second. He's walking on very thin ice right now.

Kevin Gregg bounced back from Sunday's blown save to protect a one-run lead against the Dodgers on Tuesday. There's still time for Gregg to be traded, but it appears pretty likely that he'll finish out the season as the Cubs' closer. He's three saves away from reaching 30 for the third time in his career.

Kevin Gregg suffered a blown save in Sunday's extra-inning loss to the Padres. Gregg allowed two hits and gave up the game-tying run on a wild pitch in 13th inning. It was a shaky outing from the 35-year-old closer, but won't impact his status as the Cubs' closer. Gregg has converted 26-of-32 save chances this season and has a 3.18 ERA over 51 innings.

Kevin Gregg owns a 5.32 ERA in 21 appearances since June 22. Opposing batters have knocked Gregg silly over that stretch, posting a .286/.396/.500 slash line and 14/16 K/BB ratio over those 22 innings. For frame of reference, David Wright and his 5.6 WAR is slashing .309/.391/.512 this year. Gregg entered play on June 22 with a 0.77 ERA, a level of success he had no chance of sustaining. The veteran right-hander, who logged a 4.62 ERA and 1.66 WHIP over the past two seasons in Baltimore, has little chance of ending this season with an ERA lower than the 2.98 mark it currently sits at.
