CBS Sports' Jon Heyman reports that the Cubs have "rebuffed inquiries" from the Yankees and others for Justin Ruggiano. Heyman says the Cubs plan to hang on to both Ruggiano and Chris Coghlan, as they value their bats next year more than the second-tier prospect that they'd receive in return. Both Ruggiano and Coghland are under team control through 2016.

Justin Ruggiano (groin) is available to pinch-hit Friday. Ruggiano hasn't played since Tuesday due to some tightness in his groin. The outfielder has made enough progress that he can swing a bat, but he's yet to be cleared to play the field.

Justin Ruggiano hasn't played since Tuesday due to some tightness in his groin. Ruggiano was feeling better Thursday and has been doing extra exercises with the Cubs' athletic trainers. It sounds like he should avoid a stint on the disabled list. "It's important that we make sure he maintains work with [the trainers]," manager Rick Renteria said.

Justin Ruggiano went 2-for-5 and drove home a pair of runs, including the game-winner in Friday's 5-4 triumph over the Braves. Ruggiano delivered an RBI single in the third inning, then plated Arismendy Alcantara with an RBI knock in the ninth to deliver the Cubs the walk-off win. He has really picked up the pace offensively in recent weeks, and is now hitting .286/.358/.449 with 19 RBI on the season. His blend of power and speed make him a very attractive option as a fourth or fifth outfielder in deeper mixed leagues.

Justin Ruggiano went 2-for-4 with a double and a walk in Sunday's loss to the Nationals. Ruggiano has been red hot at the plate of late, as Sunday was his fourth straight multi-hit game and his sixth in his last eight starts. The double was his 10th, and he's hitting .286/.364/.476 overall. He's certainly an NL-only asset, and his ability to do a bit of everything makes him a consideration in deeper mixed leagues when he's getting regular playing time.

Justin Ruggiano went 3-for-5 with a solo homer and an RBI single in Friday's win over the Nationals. Ruggiano took Tanner Roark deep in the third inning and then plated Darwin Barney in the ninth with a single to extend the Cubs' lead. The 32-year-old outfielder has started to heat up at the dish, batting .444 (12-for-27) with two homers and nine RBI across the last seven contests. He worth using in deeper leagues.

Justin Ruggiano went 3-for-6 with a homer and five RBI in the Cubs' 16-9 defeat of the Red Sox on Wednesday. The Red Sox kicked a field goal in the ninth, but it merely brought them to within a touchdown. Ruggiano, Mike Olt, Wilkin Castillo and Nate Schierholtz all homered for the Cubs in a 19-hit game. Every starter scored a run, and only Anthony Rizzo failed to drive in a run. It was Ruggiano's first career five-RBI game. He'll probably parlay it into more starts against right-handers in the coming days.

Justin Ruggiano went 2-for-4 with a two-run double in Thursday's win over the Nationals. The Nationals had fought back to tie the game in the top half of the seventh, but Ruggiano's two-run double in the bottom half, off of Craig Stammen, put the Cubs back on top and proved to be the difference. Prior to Wednesday's pinch-hit double, Ruggiano had been in an 0-for-19 stretch. Overall, he is slashing .294/.326/.413 with two home runs and 10 RBI on the season.

Justin Ruggiano went 0-for-4 on Monday and is in a 0-for-15 slump over the last week. The Cubs just haven't been able to cobble together much of an outfield this year, particularly with Nate Schierholtz struggling so mightily. Ruggiano should really only be in there against lefties, but he was starting against another righty tonight. Since he's not stealing bases -- he's 0-for-3 this year -- he doesn't have much to offer fantasy leaguers.
