Josh Willingham (wrist) did some light swinging in the batting cages on Monday. Willingham's left wrist is still sore, but he's trying to slowly ramp up his activity level. He did not accompany the Twins on their road trip and has no timetable for a return.

The Twins scrapped a plan to have Josh Willingham (wrist) swing a bat Saturday. Willingham had to cut a hitting session short Tuesday after just a few swings due to continued soreness in his left wrist. He had been slated to give it another try Saturday, but the Twins decided against it. It's not clear when he'll try to swing a bat again. Willingham has missed four weeks with a small fracture in his wrist. "It probably would take six weeks to heal, heal," assistant GM Rob Antony said. "They were hoping that in two-three weeks, the pain would be gone and once the pain is gone, then you are fine to do [more swinging]. It is not going to get any worse then. This is longer than we hoped or expected, but every person is different."

Josh Willingham had to cut a hitting session short Tuesday after just a few swings due to continued soreness in his left wrist. Willingham said he was "sort of disappointed" that he was still sore, but he's hoping to try swinging again later this week. "A bone is one (injury) that's going to do its own thing," Willingham said. "When you've got a broken bone you know mentally it's going to take three weeks to heal. You just have to give it that time. I've broken bones before, and they just take time to heal, so you have to allow them that time and pick up activity as the pain goes away." Willingham had been hoping to return in early May, but obviously that's not looking likely now.

Josh Willingham (wrist) will take batting practice in the cage Tuesday. Willingham was diagnosed with a hairline fracture in his left wrist two weeks ago, but he said Tuesday that he's now pain-free. We should have a better idea about a possible timeline for his return as he begins to ramp things up.

Josh Willingham (wrist) will begin hitting early next week. Willingham is still feeling a bit of soreness in his left wrist, but he's doing much better. It's not clear at this point whether a rehab assignment will be needed, but a return in early May seems doable.

Josh Willingham (wrist) lifted weight Friday but has yet to swing a bat. He won't be allowed to swing until the hairline fracture in his left wrist is fully healed. The Twins had been hoping the outfielder would be ready for activation on April 22 when first eligible, but that's looking unlikely at this point.

A CT scan has revealed a hairline fracture in Josh Willingham's left wrist. Willingham does not need surgery but will visit with some hand specialists. Even with a minor fracture, the Twins are hopeful that the outfielder will be ready to go once his 15 days are up. Willingham is eligible to return on April 22.

Twins placed OF Josh Willingham on the 15-day disabled list, retroactive to April 7, with a left wrist contusion. With the backdating of the DL stint, he'll be eligible to return next week if he's improved enough by then. Michael Tonkin was recalled in a corresponding move to add depth to the Twins bullpen.

The Twins announced Friday that they'll place Josh Willingham on the disabled list on Saturday with a left wrist injury. Reliever Michael Tonkin will be recalled to take his spot on the active roster. The move doesn't come as a surprise as the veteran outfielder has been slow to progress since he exited Sunday's game after taking a pitch off of the wrist. He will undergo an MRI on Saturday to determine the severity of the injury since he's still experiencing irritation.
