EDGE Analysis
Rutledge started his rehab assignment Tuesday, initially serving as the PawSox's designated hitter. His rehab stay will continue as the organization wants him to get defensive work at first base, third base and shortstop.

Rutledge (hamstring) went 1-for-3 while serving as the designated hitter for Triple-A Pawtucket in the first game of his rehabilitation assignment Wednesday.
EDGE Analysis
The Red Sox have not given us an indication of how long Rutledge will need to be on rehab. Once he's ready, Rutledge is expected to be activated to Boston's roster.

Rutledge (hamstring) will begin a rehabilitation stint this week, Julian Benbow of The Boston Globe reports.
EDGE Analysis
Rutledge will serve as a designated hitter until he's cleared to play in the field. When he's ready to be activated off the 10-day disabled list, Rutledge will join Boston's roster as a right-handed bat that can play multiple infield positions. The team's greatest need is having someone that can spell Pablo Sandoval against left-handed starters.

Rutledge (hamstring) will participate in base running drills Monday in hopes of beginning a rehab assignment at Triple-A Pawtucket on Tuesday, Brian MacPherson of The Providence Journal reports.
EDGE Analysis
Rutledge has been out since spring training with the ailment, but appears to be on the right track towards returning within the coming weeks. If all goes well for the infielder, he could be activated from the disabled list as early as next Friday. Upon his return, expect Rutledge to serve as a reserve infielder, primarily functioning in a third base platoon with Pablo Sandoval.

Rutledge (hamstring) has started taking groundballs and will begin a rehabilitation assignment once he can start running the bases, Pete Abraham of The Boston Globe reports.
EDGE Analysis
Rutledge represents a possible right-handed platoon partner at third base for Pablo Sandoval who is hitting .133 and is 0-for-9 against left-handed pitchers. Manager John Farrell said it's too early to think about platooning Sandoval, but that could be because they don't currently have a bat to matchup against southpaws.

Rutledge (hamstring) was placed on the 10-day disabled list Saturday, Pete Abraham of the Boston Globe reports.
EDGE Analysis
Although his performance at the plate doesn't stand out, Rutledge was set to see a fair amount of playing time in a utility role. Once he's back to full health, Rutledge is likely to return to his job as a formidable infield reserve. However, a timeframe for his return has yet to be presented.

Red Sox manager John Farrell said Wednesday that Rutledge (hamstring) will "require some time" off to recover and would likely open the season the 10-day DL, Tim Britton of the Providence Journalreports.
EDGE Analysis
Rutledge strained his left hamstring in Tuesday's Grapefruit League game, and while the extent of his setback isn't known, Farrell's comments suggests it's more than a day-to-day situation. The 27-year-old was expected to fill a utility role in the infield for the Red Sox, with perhaps his greatest importance early in the season coming as a platoon partner at first base with Mitch Moreland, as Hanley Ramirez has been unable to play the position this spring due to a sore shoulder. Farrell suggested that Steve Selsky and Marco Hernandez would be the top candidates to take Rutledge's spot on the roster, with Selsky perhaps having the edge to his previous experience playing first base.

Rutledge, who exited Tuesday's Grapefruit League game early, has been diagnosed with a left hamstring strain, Jason Mastrodonato of the Boston Herald reports.
EDGE Analysis
It's a tough break for Rutledge, who was slated to open the season as a left-handed utility option for the Red Sox off the bench. As of now, no timetable has been set for his return. Fellow infielder Marco Hernandez is a good candidate to fill Rutledge's role in the meantime.

Rutledge had to be removed from Tuesday's spring game after injuring himself running from first to third base, Tim Britton of the Providence Journal reports.
EDGE Analysis
It's unclear how long Rutledge will be sidelined with the injury, but given the limited time before the season starts, there is a strong chance he will not be ready for Opening Day. There should be a clearer timetable once the Red Sox release more on the injury. If the 27-year-old is forced to miss time to begin the season, Marco Hernandez should could fill in as infield depth.

Rutledge was used as a first baseman for the first time this spring over the weekend, Dan Shaughnessy of The Boston Globe reports.
EDGE Analysis
There are two things to take away from Rutledge playing first base. First, it's a sign that Hanley Ramirez's shoulder woes continue to prevent him from playing the field, and it grows increasingly unlikely he'll play first base before the Grapefruit League ends Wednesday. Secondly, Rutledge is looking like he'll stick on the roster as Pablo Sandoval's backup at third base. He can serve as the right-handed complement to Sandoval while possibly playing the same role to Mitch Moreland at first base.
