Rutledge started at second base and went 2-for-3 in Wednesday's 8-0 loss to the Yankees.
EDGE Analysis
Rutledge had been held out of the starting lineup Sunday and Tuesday after dealing with an illness over the weekend. He and Deven Marrero have been filling in at second base while Dustin Pedroia (wrist) is on the disabled list. Pedroia is expected to be activated Friday, so Thursday's series finale against the Yankees presents one last opportunity for Rutledge or Marrero.

Rutledge is out of the lineup Tuesday against the Yankees, Tim Britton of The Providence Journal reports.
EDGE Analysis
After coming off the bench in Sunday's game against the Orioles and having Monday off to recover with the Red Sox off the schedule, Rutledge was expected to rejoin the lineup Tuesday at second base, but it appears he may not longer rank as manager John Farrell's preferred option at the position while Dustin Pedroia (wrist) remains on the disabled list. Though he lacks much offensive upside, Deven Marrero offers a capable glove at the position, which may be good enough to keep him ahead of Rutledge on the depth chart while the latter struggles to provide much punch at the plate. Rutledge is batting .246 over 65 at-bats this season, with only one of his 16 hits going for extra bases.

Rutledge (illness) entered Sunday's 7-3 win over the Orioles in the eighth inning as a defensive replacement.
EDGE Analysis
Rutledge had been scratched from Saturday's game due to dehydration, and manager John Farrell didn't want to push him with full-time duty Sunday. As such, Rutledge was available for limited duty and entered the game as a defensive replacement for Pablo Sandoval, whose defense was particularly calamitous Sunday. Rutledge's appearance suggests he'll be ready to go Tuesday in New York against the Yankees.

Rutledge (illness) is out of the lineup Sunday against the Orioles, Pete Abraham of The Boston Globe reports.
EDGE Analysis
Rutledge ended up being scratched from the lineup Saturday after experiencing dehydration, and though it doesn't sound like a major concern for the infielder, he'll get a second straight game off to recover. Deven Marrero checks in at second base in place of Rutledge.

Rutledge was scratched from Saturday's lineup due to dehydration, Pete Abraham of the Boston Globe reports.
EDGE Analysis
Fortunately, there's no injury in play with Rutledge, but it's uncertain if he will be able to return for Sunday's series finale. Deven Marrero is slated to start at second base Saturday, but Rutledge is expected to serve as the top replacement option for Dustin Pedroia (wrist) at the keystone once he's back to full strength.

Rutledge was scratched from Saturday's lineup against the Orioles.
EDGE Analysis
A reason for Rutledge's scratch was not immediately provided, but look for the team to elaborate before long. Deven Marrero is now slated to start at second base and bat ninth.

Contrary to prior reports, Rutledge is expected to pick up primary second base duties with Dustin Pedroia (wrist) on the disabled list, Tim Britton of The Providence Journal reports.
EDGE Analysis
Manager John Farrell came out and said that he's putting an emphasis on offense while his primary second baseman is out. This certainly works in Rutledge's favor, as he's batting .318 over his past 30 games, although Deven Marrero still remains as an option at the keystone.

Rutledge is expected to continue coming off the bench despite Dustin Pedroia (wrist) landing on the disabled list, Ian Browne of MLB.com reports.
EDGE Analysis
The corresponding move to fill Pedroia's spot on the roster was the activation of Pablo Sandoval off the DL, meaning the latter will likely take over primary duties there. This moves Deven Marrero over to the keystone, although he's hitting under .200 on the season. Rutledge's positional versatility could land him a few starts per week despite not landing the primary job out of the gate, although he could push for more playing time if he continues to hit well (.318 batting average over his past 30 games).

Rutledge entered Monday's game when Dustin Pedroia was removed with a sprained left wrist. He went 1-for-2 with a walk in Boston's 5-4 loss to the White Sox.
EDGE Analysis
One game into a 10-game road trip, Pedroia flew back to Boston for an MRI on the wrist. We obviously have to wait on the results, but it appears Rutledge will be the starting second basemen for the next couple of games at the very least. Boston's infield depth has been strained by injuries, making Rutledge a vital roster piece. With Pablo Sandoval (knee) set to return later this week, Deven Marrero can move off third base and provide some necessary infield depth.

Rutledge started at second base in place of the injured Dustin Pedroia (knee) on Friday and went 1-for-4 with an RBI and run scored in a 3-0 win over Seattle.
EDGE Analysis
Rutledge has become an indispensable roster piece now that Brock Holt (vertigo) has been shut down indefinitely and Marco Hernandez underwent season-ending shoulder surgery. He'll go forward as Boston's utility infielder. The Red Sox also have Deven Marrero to fill a similar role but Rutledge has the more threatening bat.
