Padres transferred RHP Josh Johnson from the 15-day disabled list to the 60-day disabled list. The move was made in order to clear room on the 40-man roster. Johnson had successful Tommy John surgery on Thursday.

Josh Johnson is scheduled to undergo Tommy John reconstructive elbow surgery on Thursday. It's the second Tommy John surgery of Johnson's career, and he can now be ruled out through at least the first month of the 2015 season. He earned National League Cy Young Award votes in 2010 after posting a 2.30 ERA and 186 strikeouts in 183 2/3 innings for the Marlins, but chronic arm injuries have since derailed the talented right-hander. The Padres have a $4 million option on him for next year.

Josh Johnson (elbow) will visit Dr. James Andrews on Tuesday. A decision will be made on Wednesday or Thursday regarding Johnson's future status. Yahoo! Sports' Jeff Passan reported last week that the right-hander could need Tommy John surgery. If that's the route he winds up taking, Johnson likely will never throw a pitch for the Padres. The club has a $4 million option on Johnson for 2015 if he starts fewer than seven games this season.

Josh Johnson (forearm) will see Dr. James Andrews next week. This confirms a report from Jeff Passan of Yahoo Sports, who also added that the Padres are worried that Johnson might require season-ending Tommy John surgery. Padres manager Bud Black said that Andrews "will look at everything," so he didn't exactly rule out the possibility.

Yahoo! Sports' Jeff Passan reports that the Padres are worried that Josh Johnson might need Tommy John surgery. Johnson's elbow hasn't been getting any better and will be sent to the infamous Dr. James Andrews next week for a second opinion. It would be Johnson's second Tommy John surgery and the second operation on his elbow in the last six months, as he had bone spurs removed over the offseason. The Padres have a $4 million option on Johnson for 2015 if he starts fewer than seven games.

Josh Johnson will have his right elbow examined by Dr. James Andrews next week. Well, that's never a good sign. Johnson began the season on the DL with a strained flexor muscle, and he's yet to show any notable improvement. Padres general manager Josh Byrnes admitted Tuesday that he's "not sure" whether the right-hander will pitch this season. More will obviously be known after his exam next week.

Josh Johnson (forearm) will be re-evaluated this week. The Padres are growing concerned that the oft-injured hurler isn't improving quickly enough. He was given an initial timeframe of five weeks, but it's beginning to look like it could extend beyond that mark.

Padres placed RHP Josh Johnson on the 15-day disabled list with a strained flexor muscle in his right forearm. Johnson will miss up to five weeks with the injury. Robbie Erlin will take Johnson's rotation spot to start the season. Johnson signed a one-year, $8 million deal with the Padres in November.

Josh Johnson will miss a month to five weeks with a strained flexor muscle in his right forearm. It's a huge blow to the Padres, who were counting on Johnson as a productive member of the starting rotation. Johnson had surgery in October to remove bone spurs from his right elbow, so it's unclear if this injury is related to his previous issues. Robbie Erlin may step into Johnson's rotation spot to start the year.

Josh Johnson held the Mariners to one run on three hits and two walks over 4 1/3 frames Tuesday. He also recorded five strikeouts, pushing his K/BB ratio this spring to 13/4 over 13 1/3 innings to go along with a 3.38 ERA. Johnson has nice bounce-back potential this year in San Diego if he can stay healthy.
