Johnson (elbow) threw a bullpen session Saturday and has a simulated game scheduled for Monday, the Union-Tribune's Jeff Sanders reports. Following the sim game there should be more information about how close Johnson is to going on a rehab assignment. If Johnson can make it all the way back to The Show he could challenge Odrisamer Despaigne for the No. 5 starter spot.

Johnson (elbow) hopes to resume playing catch later this week, Dennis Lin of the San Diego Union-Tribune reports. Johnson was forced to skip a scheduled throwing session over the weekend after emerging from his last bullpen with what he described as "general soreness." It's a step back in his recovery from Tommy John surgery, but the right-hander seems convinced it will be a relatively small one.

Johnson (elbow) was transferred to the 60-day DL on Saturday. This is merely a procedural move to free up a 40-man roster spot, as Johnson has missed close to 60 days already. Johnson, who is working his way back from a second Tommy John surgery, experienced a bit of setback earlier this month but could throw a simulated game at some point next week.

Johnson (elbow) experienced some soreness after pitching in a simulated game last week, but will play catch Wednesday or Thursday, Corey Brock of MLB.com reports. Johnson has been progressing well through his recovery, and the reported soreness doesn't sound overly serious. There's still no word on when he'll begin a rehab assignment, but that situation should become more clear later in the week if he can get through his work Wednesday or Thursday without any setbacks.

Johnson (elbow) threw a 40-pitch bullpen session Friday, MLB.com's Corey Brock reports. The Padres will soon map out a rehab plan for Johnson in the minor leagues, and it could be a drawn out process as there is currently no room for him in the big league rotation.

Johnson threw another bullpen session Monday and will begin pitching in minor league games in May, MLB.com's Corey Brock reports. Johnson was able to throw all of his pitches during the bullpen session and continues to progress toward game action. As long as he stays on track, he'll begin pitching in minor league games some time next month.

Johnson (elbow) said his delivery feels better than it has at any point since 2011, Jon Morosi of FOX Sports reports. While Johnson's optimism should obviously be taken with a grain of salt, he does seem to be making decent progress in his recovery from April 2014 Tommy John surgery. He threw his first bullpen session March 23, and is scheduled to toss another one Monday. Johnson could be big-league ready as soon as late May or early June, but it's not clear that the Padres will have a role for him.
