Niese picked up his first win since June 28, allowing two runs on five hits and three walks while striking out six in seven innings, in the Mets' 5-3 victory over the Phillies on Monday. Niese was nicked only by Darin Ruf's two-run home run but was aided by Juan Lagares throwing out Domonic Brown at the plate to end the seventh inning. For the most part, he was in control throughout and will look to carry this strong result forward to his next start.

Niese allowed six runs on eight hits and two walks while striking out just two in six innings in the Mets' 7-1 loss to the Nationals on Wednesday. With the loss, Niese slipped to 0-4 with a 5.76 ERA since the All-Star break, which is when he came off the disabled list. He landed on the disabled list with shoulder weakness and his velocity has been slow to come around. If Niese doesn't turn it around soon, it would not be surprising to see him land back on the disabled list.

In his return from the disabled list, Jon Niese allowed four earned runs over six innings in the Mets' loss to the Mariners on Monday. Out since early July with shoulder inflammation, Niese punched out six and issued two free passes. The Mariners weren't fooled by his stuff, collecting 11 hits. Regardless, New York is happy to have Niese back, if for no other reason than to showcase him. The left-hander's contract is extremely team-friendly, paying out just $16 million over the next two seasons, with the Mets also in possession of a pair of club options totaling $21 million after that. Outside of a rusty return from layoff, Niese has been remarkably consistent; this was the first time he'd yielded more than three earned runs in a start. Now 5-5 with a 3.13 ERA, Niese heads to Milwaukee this weekend.

Mets activated RHP Jon Niese from the 15-day disabled list. He'll rejoin the Mets rotation on Monday when he takes on the Mariners in Seattle. Before hitting the disabled list with shoulder inflammation, he posted a terrific 2.96 ERA, 1.21 WHIP and 74/28 K/BB ratio over his first 103 1/3 frames.

Jon Niese (shoulder) threw a successful bullpen session on Friday and remains on track to rejoin the Mets rotation on Monday in Seattle. Niese has been on the shelf with a strained left hamstring since June 22. He will return to a 2.96 ERA, 1.21 WHIP and 74/28 K/BB ratio through his first 103 1/3 innings.

Jon Niese (shoulder) threw a bullpen session Sunday. It's the first time he's thrown off a mound since going on the disabled list. The Mets haven't put an official timetable on Niese's return, but the expectation is that he'll rejoin the rotation on July 21 in Seattle if all goes well.

Jon Niese (shoulder) is expected to rejoin the Mets' rotation on July 21 in Seattle. That's just one day later than he's eligible to return. Tests have revealed inflammation of the AC joint in Niese's left shoulder, which, all things considered, was good news. The left-hander posted a 2.96 ERA over 17 starts before being placed on the disabled list over the weekend.

Jon Niese was diagnosed with inflammation of the AC joint in his left shoulder following an MRI and X-rays. Niese was placed on the disabled list over the weekend with what was termed as a left shoulder strain. The hope is that anti-inflammatory medication will enable him to rejoin the Mets rotation early on in the second half. Still, given the number of arm issues he has dealt with over the past year, that's far from a guarantee.

Mets placed LHP Jon Niese on the 15-day disabled list, retroactive to July 5, with a left shoulder injury. Niese left his last outing after being hit in the back by a line drive, but it's his shoulder that's sending him to the DL. The left-hander has seen his velocity drop in recent starts and might be dealing with fatigue. Niese will surely undergo an MRI and/or other exams before it's determined how long he might be out.

The Mets are more concerned about a shoulder issue Jon Niese is dealing with rather than a sore back that forced him from Friday's start. Niese was hit by a line drive in back during Friday's outing, forcing him to exit after just 12 pitches. However, he's apparently been battling a shoulder issue that's caused a dip in velocity in recent starts. No official announcement has been made, but the Mets are expected to place the left-hander on the DL. "He's got a bruise and he's talked about some other issues," manager Terry Collins said Saturday. "We'll see how he is tomorrow when it's time for him to throw again." Niese dealt with shoulder weakness in spring training and missed nearly two months last season with a partially torn rotator cuff.
