Jon Niese tossed seven innings of one-run ball in the Mets' 6-1 defeat of the Phillies on Tuesday. Niese earned his first win of 2014 last week when he yielded just one run in 6 2/3 innings against the Cardinals. He was even better on Tuesday night in Philadelphia, fanning five while surrendering just four hits and a walk. Niese will carry a stellar 2.20 ERA and 1.04 WHIP into his next outing at the Rockies' Coors Field.

Jon Niese recorded his first win of the year by holding the Cardinals to one run in 6 2/3 innings on Wednesday. Niese hasn't had a bad start yet, but he ended the night with an 0-2 record anyway. He finally got on the board in this one, thanks to an uncharacteristic fourth inning from Michael Wacha. Niese ended up allowing six hits, walking two and striking out three. It looks like he'll be a pretty solid mixed-league starter if his arm holds up.

Jon Niese tossed six innings of one-run ball Friday in a loss to the Braves. Niese was pulled for a pinch-hitter in the bottom of the sixth inning, as the Mets were hitless at the time. The southpaw gave up four hits and three walks while striking out seven batters. The lone run scored on a Chris Johnson double in the second inning. While Niese fell to 0-2 on the year, he now has a 2.84 ERA and 16/5 K/BB ratio in 19 inning across three starts. He'll get the Cardinals next week at home.

Jon Niese surrendered three runs in 7 1/3 innings in a no-decision Saturday against the Angels. Niese got an extra day of rest after his season debut last Sunday and impressed again. We're not all that optimistic that his arm will hold up, but his stuff looks fine right now, making him a decent spot starter in mixed leagues. He'll get the Braves next time out on Friday.

Jon Niese (elbow) allowed four runs -- two earned -- on five hits over 4 2/3 innings in a simulated game Tuesday. He threw 76 pitches in the outing. Scripps' Bill Whitehead says Niese "looked pretty good," but hitters were jumping on his stuff early in the count. As long as the left-hander feels good Wednesday, he's expected to be cleared to start on Sunday against the Reds.

Jon Niese (elbow) is scheduled to pitch in a minor league intrasquad game Tuesday in St. Lucie, Florida. If the outing goes smoothly, Niese will make his regular-season debut on Sunday (April 6) against the Reds. He was slowed this spring by left elbow inflammation.

Mets placed LHP Jon Niese on the 15-day disabled list, retroactive to March 21, with a left elbow injury. It sounds like merely a formality at this point, and Niese is expected to be ready to take his first turn through the rotation on April 6 against the Reds.

Jon Niese (elbow) is scheduled to pitch in a minor league game on Thursday. Niese made it through a 45-pitch bullpen session on Monday in Mets camp and will now test his sore left elbow against live competition. If the minor league outing goes well on Thursday, he could line up to make his regular-season debut on April 6 against the Nationals.

Jon Niese threw off a mound Monday for the first time since getting a cortisone injection for his elbow. Niese had that cortisone injection last Monday. The workout went well, and he is hoping to make his regular-season debut on April 6 against the Nationals. But the Mets have not committed to anything yet.
