Lackey is the scheduled starter for Game 4 of the Cubs' World Series matchup with the Indians, Carrie Muskat of MLB.com reports.

EDGE Analysis

As was the case during the rest of the postseason, Lackey will line up fourth in the rotation behind Jon Lester, Jake Arrieta, and Kyle Hendricks. This puts Lackey in a position to pitch at Wrigley Field on Saturday and face either Ryan Merritt, Corey Kluber, or Danny Salazar (forearm).

Manager Joe Maddon announced that Lackey will start Game 4 of the NLDS, Jesse Rogers of ESPN reports.

Lackey posted strong numbers yet again this season, prompting the Cubs to continue riding him into the postseason. His start is naturally not guaranteed given that the series is best-of-5, but should Game 4 be necessary, the right-hander would pitch Tuesday on the road against the winner of the Giants/Mets Wild Card game.

Lackey (11-8) tossed five strong innings, allowing just one run on five hits while walking three and striking out three Pirates in Tuesday's win.

Lackey's victory earned him an 11-win season for the 11th time in his 14-year career (the first of which, in 2002, he only started 18 games). The veteran has played a key role in the Cubs' success this season, managing a 3.35 ERA (third-best of his career) while sporting a career-best 1.06 WHIP over 188.1 innings (29 starts). Lackey's 180 strikeouts are the most he's notched since 2006 as a member of the Angels. His fantastic regular season is now complete, and will look to roll his success into the postseason.

Lackey (10-8) overcame a tough second inning to finish seven strong frames in Wednesday's win over the Reds, allowing two runs on five hits and a walk with four strikeouts.

EDGE Analysis

He came in looking to bounce back from a three-homer misstep against the Brewers, and the veteran righty did just that, giving up two or fewer runs for the fifth time in his last six starts. The Reds' second-inning rally accounted for the vast majority of what they were able to do against Lackey, as they got four men on base and scored both their runs in that frame. Over his other six innings, Lackey gave up just two hits, and his day was finished after a leisurely 87 pitches. Lackey may only make one more start before the regular season ends; he'll draw the Pirates on Tuesday, but could conceivably be skipped in preparation for the playoffs when his turn comes up on the season's last day.

Lackey didn't factor into the decision Friday versus the Brewers despite striking out eight over seven innings, while also giving up four earned runs on nine hits and two walks.

EDGE Analysis

The veteran righty missed plenty of bats, 17 to be exact, but also fell victim to the long ball on three different occasions. Orlando Arcia got things started with a 428-foot solo shot in the second, while Ryan Braun followed suit with his own mammoth 448-foot solo blast in the fourth. Scooter Gennett made it a hat trick with a two-run shot in the seventh that snapped a 2-2 tie at the time. The four earned runs represented Lackey's highest total in that category since giving up the same number on July 17 versus the Rangers and he's now failed to pick up his 10th win for four consecutive starts. He'll look to right the ship against the Cardinals next Friday.

Lackey (9-8) gave up two earned runs on four hits and three walks over six innings in Saturday's 2-1 loss to the Astros. He struck out five.

EDGE Analysis

The veteran righty couldn't get any run support on a day when he pitched well overall. Lackey's troubles were all limited to the third inning, when he surrendered a solo shot to Alex Bregman and yielded another run on a Marwin Gonzalez sacrifice. He notched 14 swinging strikes overall on his way to his sixth quality start in the last seven trips to the mound. Lackey will try to rebound for his 10th win of the season when he takes on the Brewers next Friday.

Lackey (9-7) allowed two runs, one of which was earned, on one hit and one walk while striking out four over five innings, but received no decision Sunday against the Giants.

EDGE Analysis

Lackey has been dealing lately, as he's allowed one or fewer earned runs in four of his last five starts, lowering his ERA from 3.79 to 3.36 during that span. In addition, the 37-year-old has a 1.02 WHIP, which is easily the lowest of his 14-year career.

EDGE Analysis

No surprises here, as Lackey had already been named Chicago's starting pitcher for the Sunday afternoon matchup. It's a tough first start back for the veteran, as he'll have to go head-to-head against Johnny Cueto and the Giants. Look for the Cubs to announce a corresponding roster move in short order.

The hope all along was that Lackey would be ready to come off the DL to start the series finale against the Giants, and the Cubs announced Friday that he will indeed make that start. Lackey has a 3.41 ERA and 156 strikeouts in 158.1 innings this season, but surprisingly he only has nine wins to show for it, despite playing on the best team in baseball.
