Jeremy Guthrie was hammered for six earned runs in four innings Saturday in a loss to the Indians. It was the worst start in close to two months for Guthrie, who was knocked around for 11 hits and issued two walks. His ERA went from 3.69 all the way to 4.02. Guthrie will try to get back on the right track in his next outing at home against the Tigers.

Jeremy Guthrie allowed two runs over 7 2/3 innings Monday in a defeat of the Dodgers. Guthrie has rebounded from a five-game losing streak to win three in a row, allowing five runs over 20 innings in the process. We wouldn't go picking him up in mixed leagues, of course, but he's giving the Royals exactly what they need.

Jeremy Guthrie limited the Tigers to one run in 6 2/3 innings in a victory Wednesday. Incredibly, he struck out nine for the second straight start. Prior to last week, he had just six nine-strikeout games in 229 career starts. Perhaps more incredibly, Guthrie also committed his sixth error of the season in the game. That's three more than any other pitcher in MLB and two more than any pitcher had during the entire 2013 season. The last pitcher to have more than six in a season was Matt Garza, who committed seven in 2011.

Jeremy Guthrie pitched well on Friday, whiffing nine White Sox over 5 2/3 innings en route to his third victory of the season. The veteran right-hander allowed two runs on six hits and four walks on the evening. He danced in and out of trouble throughout the night, but was able to make big pitches in the most critical situations. He now owns a 4.04 ERA, 1.26 WHIP and 50/24 K/BB ratio on the season. He's nothing more than a matchup play in mixed leagues, and should be avoided for Wednesday's matchup against the Tigers in Detroit.

Jeremy Guthrie gave up four runs over seven innings in a loss to the Yankees on Friday. Guthrie had allowed four runs in his previous three outings combined. The big blow Friday was a bases-clearing double by Brian McCann in the third inning. The veteran right-hander struck out two and walked one in the loss and now owns a 4.10 ERA through 13 starts this season. He's winless since April 9, but will try to change that when he faces the Indians next week in another start at home.

Jeremy Guthrie allowed one run over six innings of work but took the loss against the Astros on Tuesday. Guthrie gave up seven hits and walked three, with a Matt Dominguez RBI single as the only damage against him on the evening. The right-hander also struck out five. He's been very good in his last two starts with nothing to show for it, and he's 2-4 with a 4.14 ERA and 1.23 WHIP through 11 starts. He gives the Royals innings but remains a non-entity outside of deep AL-only leagues. His next start will come Sunday at the Blue Jays.

Jeremy Guthrie allowed just one run and three hits over seven innings in a no-decision against the White Sox on Wednesday. Guthrie didn't get a win for his effort. He prevailed in his first two starts of the year, but he's 0-3 in eight starts since, even though the Royals have won four of those games. The start tonight lowered his ERA from 4.76 to 4.39.

Jeremy Guthrie allowed seven runs, including three home runs, over 4 2/3 innings in a no-decision against the Mariners on Sunday. Guthrie served up two homers to Dustin Ackley and another to Kyle Seager among his eight hits allowed. The right-hander didn't walk a batter while striking out two. His offense bailed him out from taking his third loss, but Guthrie still hasn't earned a win since April 9. He'll keep searching for that win Saturday against the Orioles.

Jeremy Guthrie fired eight innings of one-run ball as part of a no-decision versus the Padres on Tuesday. Guthrie didn't blow anybody away, of course -- striking out two -- but he limited unforced errors (one walk) and kept the Padres off balance (three scattered hits; the fourth was Yasmani Grandal's fourth inning solo homer). Guthrie is earning his salary thus far, going 2-2 with a 3.91 ERA in seven outings. The veteran remains out west in Seattle on Sunday.

Jeremy Guthrie took the loss in Thursday's start, allowing four runs in six innings as the Royals fell to the Blue Jays. Guthrie allowed eight hits and two walks while striking out four. The right-hander made two big mistakes resulting in home runs: a two-run shot to Juan Francisco in the fourth, and a solo shot to Colby Rasmus in the sixth. Thursday's start marked the fourth out of six in which Guthrie has allowed exactly four runs, emblematic of who he is: reliably and consistently a 4.50 ERA-type pitcher.
