He had given up 17 earned runs over 22 innings in his previous four starts. Guthrie will face the Indians in Cleveland in his final start before the break.

The two runners came around to score off Will Smith. Under different circumstances, Guthrie's ERA would have gone down tonight. Instead, it increased.

Jeremy Guthrie (hand) is expected to be ready to make his scheduled start on Wednesday. Guthrie was hit on the pitching hand by a comebacker during his last outing, but he said Saturday that the hand was feeling much better. "It's good," he said. "The swelling has gone down, and I'm able to play catch." The right-hander will get the Indians on Wednesday.

It was the first time he had pitched fewer than five innings in a start this season. The veteran right-hander is missing fewer bats than ever before and has always been homer-prone, which is a troubling combination for fantasy owners. He'll face the Twins next week in Minnesota.

The Tigers couldn't do any other damage, even though Guthrie finish the night with no strikeouts, three walks and a HBP. He improved to 7-3 with a 3.60 ERA.
