Locke (shoulder) could begin his throwing program Saturday, but won't be rushed back.
EDGE Analysis
Manager Don Mattingly has continued to exercise caution with Locke, even if that means he won't be ready for Opening Day. "We've got a long season and we've still got a lot of time in camp," said Mattingly. "We don't want to force him into a 30-day window." Locke's recent MRI showed no structural damage, but this is certainly a situation to monitor as spring training continues. The veteran southpaw is expected to compete for a rotation spot upon his return.

Locke's (shoulder) MRI showed no structural damage, but he won't throw for a week, Joe Frisaro of MLB.com reports.
EDGE Analysis
It's a sigh of relief for Locke and the Marlins, especially considering that the southpaw is already dealing with biceps tendinitis. The 29-year-old will receive some much needed rest before returning to regular pitching activities. Expect Locke to continue competing for a starting spot when he returns.

Locke (biceps/shoulder) underwent an MRI on his left shoulder Thursday, though manager Don Mattingly said he's optimistic that the discomfort isn't serious, Clark Spencer of the Miami Herald reports.
EDGE Analysis
The left-hander already has been dealing with biceps tendinitis, so the new test is concerning. Still, as Mattingly said, this may just have been precautionary. Whenever he's able to get back to work, Locke will continue competing for a rotation spot.

Locke (biceps) threw 15-20 light tosses from 60 feet on Thursday, Joe Frisaro of MLB.com reports.
EDGE Analysis
It was the first time the southpaw threw in three days, as he's been resting and dealing with biceps tendinitis. Although the club believes the ailment isn't too serious, Locke seems content taking things slow. "It's a lot better," Locke said, "but we're not going to say, 'Live BP tomorrow.' We're going to take the next step, whatever that is." When he returns, he'll look to compete for a rotation spot to open the season.

Locke is dealing with biceps tendinitis and won't throw for the next three days, Clark Spencer of the Miami Herald reports.
EDGE Analysis
Locke's injury isn't considered a long-term issue, so the Marlins will take a conservative approach with his usage in the early days of spring training. Assuming Locke is able to resume throwing next week, he shouldn't find himself too far behind the rest of the Marlins' other starting pitching options as he looks to claim a rotation spot to open the season.

Locke agreed to a one-year, $3 million deal with the Marlins on Wednesday, the Miami Herald's Clark Spencer reports.
EDGE Analysis
Locke will compete with Tom Koehler for the fifth spot in Miami's rotation. He has a career 4.41 ERA and 1.41 WHIP in 644.1 innings, and has not posted a strikeout rate north of 18 percent since 2012. Last year was perhaps Locke's worst professional campaign, as he notched a 5.44 ERA and his strikeout rate fell to an abysmal 12.9 percent.

Locke was non-tendered by the Pirates on Friday and will now hit free agency.
EDGE Analysis
Locke was designated for assignment on Tuesday, so the non-tendering is mostly a procedural move as Locke seeks out another team. The 29-year-old is now four seasons removed from his All-Star 2013 season, which was probably thanks to a good deal of luck judging from his 4.03 FIP that year, so he might need to make the full transition to reliever if he wants to stick in the majors going forward.

Locke was designated for assignment by the Pirates on Tuesday.
EDGE Analysis
Locke has fallen far from his earlier times in the Pirates organization, as he was only able to muster a 5.44 ERA last season and even was demoted to the bullpen for a portion of the campaign. With the Pirates needing a spot on the 40-man for recently-acquired Lisalverto Bonilla, it seems like Locke's time in the Steel City is coming to a close. The lefty's recent numbers leave much to be desired, but if he can produce anywhere near the numbers that helped him become a mainstay in Pittsburgh's rotation in the first place, he could prove to be a decent and inexpensive option for teams in need of pitching depth.

Locke will be moved to the Pirates bullpen Sunday, Stephen J. Nesbitt of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reports.
EDGE Analysis
After his debacle in his start on Wednesday (4.1 IP, 5 ER), Locke will be transferred to the bullpen. With Ryan Vogelsong back from injury and Ivan Nova being acquired from the Yankees, the Pirates have room to work with in the starting rotation so it's not a huge blow to move Locke to a relief role. In addition, Arquimedes Caminero was traded to the Mariners on Saturday so Pittsburgh had a spot in the bullpen to fill. After giving up five earned runs in three of his last five starts, a transition to a relief role could be what the 28-year-old needs to regain his form.

Locke (8-7) gave up five runs on nine hits and a two walks with just one strikeout over 4.1 innings in Wednesday's loss to the Braves.
EDGE Analysis
The troubled lefty has now given up five runs in three consecutive starts that have been broken up by a couple successful relief appearances. It's clear that Locke is not an effective starter at this point, but Pittsburgh's clearly hurting for rotation options with Tyler Glasnow (shoulder) on the DL and Francisco Liriano having been traded. The Pirates have no choice but to roll him out; that doesn't mean you have to.
