Jason Marquis limited the Braves to two runs on five hits over 7 2/3 innings in improving to 8-2 on Monday. Marquis wasn't exactly sharp, walking five and striking out four, but he's constructed a career out of playing with fire and praying the mound doesn't set ablaze. The veteran's smoke-and-mirrors approach is well suited for PETCO, but Marquis surprisingly has a better road than home ERA thus far. He'll take a nice 3.59 ERA and rough 1.42 WHIP and 50/43 K/BB rate (77 2/3 innings) into next week's date against the Snakes in San Diego.

Jason Marquis was knocked around for four earned run on seven hits over just 3 1/3 innings in his start Sunday against the Diamondbacks. Marquis struggled with his command (four walks) and gave up back-to-back two run innings, including a two-run homer to Eric Chavez. It ends a steak of five straight quality starts, but he managed to escape with a no-decision. Marquis has been an underrated signing for the Padres. He now has 6-2 record, 3.70 ERA and 1.44 WHIP in 59 innings.

Jason Marquis limited the Cardinals to two runs -- one earned -- on three hits over six innings to improve to 6-2 on Monday. Marquis has won each of his last five trips to the bump and has been one of baseball's best starters over that stretch. We aren't here to pimp Marquis, however, as he's benefited from smoke and mirrors and his home park perhaps more than any pitcher in the game. Marquis' 28 walks lead the National League. And that five-game winning streak? He posted a hideous 17/18 K/BB rate over 31 2/3 innings during that stretch. This house of cards is about to topple and you'd be wise to identify the sucker in your league to pay for Marquis' 6-2 record and 3.27 ERA before it does.

Jason Marquis pitched eight innings of five-hit ball and combined with Huston Street on a 1-0 shutout of the Marlins on Wednesday. A fine outing, even if it was against a Triple-A lineup. Marquis has won three straight starts and lowered his ERA to 3.48. Things are about to get more difficult with road starts against the Orioles and Diamondbacks and home outing against the Cardinals next on the schedule.

Jason Marquis held the Giants to just two runs over six-plus innings Sunday for his second win of the season. Marquis allowed six hits, four walks, and had three strikeouts. The Giants couldn't get anything going against him, but his struggled with his command and benefitted from early run support. Marquis remains no more than an NL-only option.

Jason Marquis lasted just 4 2/3 innings Monday, giving up seven runs on four hits and four walks in a loss to the Brewers. Marquis looked lost from the get go in this one, as he gave up a single and two homers and hit two batters in the first inning. He settled in a bit over the next few innings but then gave up a two-spot in the fifth. Marquis had pitched pretty well in his first three starts but will now take a 4.63 ERA into the weekend start versus the Giants.

Jason Marquis limited the Dodgers to one run and three hits in 7 2/3 innings to earn his first win of the season on Tuesday. Marquis pitched well in back-to-back starts versus the Dodgers after losing to Colorado his first time out. But that's nothing new; he's 7-4 with a 2.53 ERA in 16 starts and one relief appearance against the Dodgers in his career. Next up for Marquis is a home start against the Brewers, which rates as a rather promising matchup for NL-only leaguers.

Jason Marquis yielded two runs in five innings Thursday as part of a no-decision against the Dodgers. Marquis allowed 11 out of the 26 batters he faced to reach base, so it's pretty impressive that he somehow managed to walk away with just two runs scoring. The veteran right-hander might not be as fortunate for a rematch against the Dodgers next week. He shouldn't be owned outside of NL-only formats.

Jason Marquis spun six innings of one-run ball Monday against the Rangers. He walked four and gave up six hits, but he was able to limit the damage with the help of five strikeouts. Marquis has rode his sinker to a 2.00 ERA over five outings this spring. He'll open the season in the Padres' rotation.

Jason Marquis allowed two runs -- one earned -- over three innings in Tuesday's win over the Dodgers. Marquis gave up four hits and walked two while striking out two. The sinkerballer is an underwhelming talent, but he provided solid innings for the Padres last season and is expected to break camp as a member of the rotation.
