Padres manager Bud Black revealed Monday that Jason Marquis has "significant damage" to the ulnar collateral ligament in his right elbow. It doesn't appear that the Padres have made firm plans yet, but this surely means that Marquis is headed for Tommy John surgery. The sinkerballer posted a 4.05 ERA over 20 starts for the Pads this season but will now likely be sidelined until the second half of 2014. He'll be a free agent this winter.

Padres placed RHP Jason Marquis on the 15-day disabled list, retroactive to July 20, with a right elbow strain. There's no word yet on the severity of the injury or who will be taking Marquis' spot in the rotation. Miles Mikolas has been recalled to take his spot on the roster.

Jason Marquis was spanked for six runs on eight hits over 5 1/3 innings Friday in a loss to the Cardinals. He struck out zero and walked three in the dud. On June 15, Marquis was 9-2 with a 3.63 ERA. He hasn't won since and now sits on a 4.05 earned run average. Of more concern, Marquis has walked more batters than he's struck out in that span. Don't let the decent ERA fool you: He is not a good fantasy bet.

Jason Marquis gave up two runs over 5 1/3 innings Thursday in a no-decision against the Giants. Marquis yielded seven hits (including a solo homer by Pablo Sandoval) and two walks while notching three strikeouts. The veteran right-hander will go into the All-Star break with nine wins and a 3.77 ERA through 19 starts. However, with a 72/65 K/BB ratio in 112 1/3 innings, he's a really poor bet to keep it up as the season moves along.

Jason Marquis allowed three earned runs over six innings Saturday in a no-decision vs. the Nationals. San Diego had the lead when Marquis exited the game but coughed it up during a seventh-inning collapse. The soft-tossing right-hander gave up eight hits and walked three, so it's not like he was cheated out of a victory. Marquis will carry a 3.79 ERA and 1.49 WHIP into his next scheduled outing at home against the Giants. He is not a good fantasy bet despite some still-shiny rate stats.

Despite walking seven betters, Jason Marquis went without allowing an earned run in 6 1/3 innings against the Marlins on Monday. Marquis did give up four unearned runs and was tagged with the loss, so it wasn't all roses. He now has a 66/60 K/BB ratio in 101 innings for the season. The 9-4 win-loss record and 3.74 ERA are nifty, but no one should expect him to keep it up.

Jason Marquis was lit up for six runs in 4 1/3 innings by the Phillies on Tuesday, snapping his eight-game winning streak. It was Marquis' first loss since April 22, and it's just the second time this year he's given up more than four earned runs. It's safe to say it'll happen a bit more frequently the rest of the way.

Jason Marquis allowed two runs on seven hits and a walk while striking out five over six innings in a no-decision against the Dodgers on Thursday. Marquis exited with the game square at two apiece. The Padres roughed up Los Angeles' bullpen and emerged victorious, 6-3. Marquis is fourth in the National League with nine wins, and his ERA stands at a very respectable 3.59. He's allowed 15 home runs, however, including at least one in six straight games, and leads the NL in walks issued (48). Marquis can be used in NL-only formats next time out against the Phillies in San Diego, where the veteran is 6-1 over 10 starts.

Jason Marquis overcame career-long problems with Arizona in Saturday's victory, allowing three runs on three hits over 6 2/3 innings. He walked four and struck out three, his second consecutive victory in which he issued more free passes than punch outs. Marquis entered the game 3-7 in his career against the Diamondbacks with a 4.53 ERA and 1.41 WHIP over 99 1/3 innings. He's 9-2 with a 3.63 ERA, numbers he'll bring into a matchup against the Dodgers in San Diego on Thursday.

Jason Marquis will start Saturday against the Diamondbacks. With Clayton Richard scratched, Marquis will be pitching on just four days rest. The Padres are currently listing Richard as Sunday's probable starter.
