Ryu signed an 8-year contract with the Hanwha Eagles of the Korea Baseball Organization on Wednesday, Jee-ho Yoo of the Yonhap News Agency reports.
EDGE Analysis
Ryu will turn 37 in March, and signing an eight-year deal overseas at that age makes it overwhelmingly likely that he has thrown his last pitch in the majors. If that proves to be the case, Ryu will finish his MLB career with a 3.27 ERA and 1.18 WHIP across 10 seasons spent with the Dodgers and Blue Jays.

Ryu is expected to sign a contract with the Hanwha Eagles of the Korea Baseball Organization, Dan Kurtz of MyKBO.net reports.
EDGE Analysis
Ryu started 11 games in 2023 for the Blue Jays after returning from Tommy John surgery, posting a 3.46 ERA and 1.29 WHIP with a 38:14 K:BB across 52.0 innings. The 36-year-old has elected to return overseas for the upcoming season, where he won KBO MVP and Rookie of the Year during his 2006 campaign.

Ryu is not on the Blue Jays' AL Wild Card Series roster, Mike Wilner of the Toronto Star reports.
EDGE Analysis
Ryu wasn't going to get a start in the series and has made just one relief appearance in his entire career, so his exclusion from the roster isn't a surprise. He could potentially be added should the Jays advance to the ALDS.

Ryu did not factor into the decision Saturday, allowing two runs on seven hits over three innings against the Rays. He struck out one and did not issue any walks.
EDGE Analysis
Ryu got knocked around early, giving up one run on three hits in the first inning as the Rays took an early lead. He would allow another four hits over the next two frames before being relieved by Trevor Richards to open the fourth. The lefty has now failed to make it through five innings in three consecutive starts, allowing six or more hits in each of those outings. Ryu also recorded just one strikeout on the day, which marked his season low.

Ryu came away with a no-decision in Saturday's 7-6 loss to the Rays, coughing up five runs on seven hits -- including three home runs -- and three walks over 4.1 innings. He struck out two.
EDGE Analysis
Two of the long balls came in the first inning, as Ryu served up a solo shot to Yandy Diaz and a three-run blast to Josh Lowe. The veteran southpaw avoided his fourth loss of the season when the Blue Jays took the lead in the top of the eighth inning, only for closer Jordan Romano to blow the save in the ninth. Ryu's failed to complete five innings in two straight starts, and he has a 4.32 ERA, 1.44 WHIP and 17:9 K:BB through 25 innings in September. With the Jays in a dogfight for a wild-card spot, he may need to step things up in his final outing of the regular season -- a rematch with the Rays back in Toronto next weekend.

Ryu did not factor into the decision Sunday, allowing six hits and two walks over 4.2 scoreless innings against Boston. He struck out two.
EDGE Analysis
Ryu held the Red Sox off the board Sunday, though he wasn't able to make it through the fifth inning after throwing 83 pitches. While the Jays continue to monitor the left-hander's pitch count, Ryu's provided a steadying presence in the rotation since returning from Tommy John surgery in early August, going 3-3 with a 2.62 ERA in nine starts (44.2 innings). He's currently scheduled for a road matchup with the Rays in his next outing.

Ryu (3-3) took the loss Tuesday, allowing three runs on five hits and one walk over six innings in a 6-3 loss to the Rangers. He struck out five.
EDGE Analysis
Ryu had his first quality start in Tuesday's outing as it was his first time going more than five innings this season. The 36-year-old has been solid since returning from Tommy John surgery on Aug. 1, posting a 2.93 ERA, 1.05 WHIP and 33:9 K:BB in 40 innings. Ryu is slated to start at Boston in his next outing.

Ryu (3-2) took the loss Wednesday, allowing two runs on five hits and a walk over five innings in a 5-2 loss against the Athletics. He struck out five.
EDGE Analysis
Ryu pitched well Wednesday, but Carlos Perez's two-run homer in the fourth inning proved to be enough to stick the left-hander with a loss. Ryu has yet to allow more than two earned runs in a start since his first outing of the year on Aug. 1. His ERA sits at 2.65 with a 1.06 WHIP and 28:8 K:BB through his first seven starts (34 innings) this season. Ryu's currently lined up for a home matchup with the Rangers in his next outing.

Ryu (3-1) picked up the win Saturday, giving up three runs (two earned) on four hits over five-plus innings in an 8-3 victory over the Guardians. He struck out five without walking a batter.
EDGE Analysis
The veteran southpaw got hit hard on occasion, serving up solo shots to Jose Ramirez and light-hitting Tyler Freeman, but the only other run on his ledger came after he exited the game in the top of the sixth and was helped along by a Matt Chapman error. Ryu's ratios have been aided by unearned runs in three straight starts, but he's won all three and has a 2.25 ERA, 1.00 WHIP and 20:5 K:BB through 24 innings since making his return from Tommy John surgery. On the downside, he has yet to record an out in the sixth inning in any of his five outings. Ryu could carry some extra fantasy risk in his next start, which is likely to come next weekend in Coors Field.

Ryu (2-1) earned the win Sunday, allowing two unearned runs on four hits and one walk over five innings against the Reds. He struck out seven.
EDGE Analysis
Holding a 9-2 lead after five, there was no need for the Blue Jays to extend Ryu, as they continue to play it safe with the 36-year-old lefty who has looked solid in four starts since returning from Tommy John surgery. An even better sign for Ryu was the seven strikeouts he recorded in five innings after having recorded eight total in his previous 14 innings. Ryu will look to increase his workload next week in a start tentatively scheduled for Saturday at home against Cleveland.
