Bailey (0-1) yielded seven runs on eight hits and two walks, taking the loss against Seattle on Monday. He struck out seven and allowed three home runs.
EDGE Analysis
Bailey allowed four runs in the first five innings before letting all three batters he faced to start the sixth reach base without recording an out. His ERA has jumped to an even 9.00 in 10 innings this season. The 6-foot-4 righty posted a 6.09 ERA in just over 106 innings last season and he's on the way to a similarly rough campaign. He'll try to turn things around against Cleveland on Saturday.

Bailey didn't factor into the decision Wednesday, giving up three runs on five hits and two walks over five innings while striking out eight in a 7-6 loss to the Twins.
EDGE Analysis
The veteran right-hander showed flashes of his old form, generating 16 swinging strikes over his 99 pitches (60 total strikes), and Bailey exited the game in line for his first win as a Royal before another bullpen meltdown for K.C. His length injury history gives the club plenty of incentive to take it easy on him, but if Bailey remains on turn he'd next take the mound Tuesday, at home against the Mariners.

The Royals selected Bailey's contract ahead of his scheduled start Wednesday against the Twins.
EDGE Analysis
Bailey was informed he would be included in the team's rotation coming out of spring training, but he wasn't added to the 40-man or active roster until his first turn came up. The Royals designated reliever Chris Ellis for assignment to open up a spot for Bailey.

Bailey will be called up to start Wednesday's game against the Twins, Lynn Worthy of The Kansas City Star reports.
EDGE Analysis
Bailey is a bottom-of-the-barrel starting pitcher at this stage of his career, particularly in the American League on a non-contending club. He will pitch opposite Kyle Gibson and could hold this rotation spot for the foreseeable future.

The Royals reassigned Bailey to the minor leagues Thursday.
EDGE Analysis
Bailey claimed the final available spot in the Royals' rotation, but because the team won't require a fourth or fifth starter until next week, he won't be added to the 40-man or active roster right away. The right-hander could make his Kansas City debut as soon as April 2 versus the Twins.

Manager Ned Yost said Bailey could remain in extended spring training for another start or two, Jeffrey Flanagan of MLB.com reports.
EDGE Analysis
The Royals don't need a fifth starter until the second week of the season. As such, Bailey may be held back to begin the year, allowing Kansas City to carry an extra reliever or bench player until the right-hander is needed in the rotation. The veteran reliever owns a 4.05 ERA and 11:3 K:BB through 13.1 innings this spring.

Bailey is expected to open the season in the Royals' starting rotation, Rustin Dodd of The Athletic reports.
EDGE Analysis
Ian Kennedy was sent to the bullpen Tuesday, all but confirming Bailey will break camp in Kansas City's starting rotation. The veteran hurler owns a brutal 6.25 ERA and 1.67 WHIP over parts of the last four seasons (231.2 innings), and he didn't necessarily turn any heads in camp, so it would be unwise to expect much from him in 2019.

Bailey allowed four hits and one walk while recording two strikeouts over four scoreless innings during Saturday's spring game against the Brewers.
EDGE Analysis
Bailey joined the Royals on a minor-league deal in February after being released by the Dodgers and is attempting to crack the back end of the starting rotation. Saturday's outing was a step in the right direction, as the 32-year-old has now given up four runs on 12 hits across 7.1 spring innings.

Bailey will only be viewed as a starting pitcher this spring, Jeffrey Flanagan of MLB.com reports.
EDGE Analysis
Between injuries and performance, Bailey struggled during his most recent years in Cincinnati. His ERA sat north of 6.00 each of the past three seasons and he averaged a mere 6.9 K/9 over that span. Regardless, the Royals will only try him out as a starter to see if he can pose as an improvement over their back-end options. Only time will tell how things play out, though if he's unable to crack the Opening Day rotation, it wouldn't be surprising to see Bailey become a free agent once again.

Bailey signed a minor-league contract with the Royals on Saturday that includes an invitation to major-league spring training.
EDGE Analysis
The Royals don't have much in the way of established rotation arms, so Bailey should at the very least receive a token opportunity to audition for a starting gig in spring training. That being said, the 32-year-old has shown little evidence over the past three seasons in Cincinnati that he's worthy of an extended look in the majors. During that span, Bailey has gone 9-26 with a 6.29 ERA (5.03 FIP) and 6.9 K/9 across 44 starts. In the likely event that Bailey fails to break camp with the big club, he may not be willing to accept an assignment to Triple-A Omaha and could request his release from the organization.
