Reds interim manager Jim Riggleman acknowledged Tuesday that Bailey will likely move to the bullpen, though an official decision has yet to be made, John Fay of The Cincinnati Enquirer reports. "We talked with Homer earlier [Tuesday]," Riggleman said. "We are contemplating moving him to the bullpen. It's going to be a real transition...We've got a few days to sort it out and see with more discussion with [pitching coaches] Danny Darwin and Teddy Power, Homer and myself to see how that would work for him."
EDGE Analysis
Per MLB.com, Bailey is currently listed as the Reds' probable starter for Sunday's game against the Padres, but thanks to Thursday's off day, Cincinnati would be able to turn to Luis Castillo for that contest on normal rest. Riggleman noted that Bailey wasn't receptive to the idea of moving to the bullpen, but the 32-year-old right-hander might not have much choice in the matter after going 1-7 with a 6.68 ERA (6.24 FIP) over his 12 starts this season. Assuming Bailey is in fact demoted to a relief role, Anthony DeSclafani (elbow), who is in the midst of a minor-league rehab assignment, would likely be activated from the 60-day disabled list and enter the rotation at some point during the Reds' series with Colorado early next week.

Bailey's rotation spot could be in jeopardy, MLB.com's Mark Sheldon reports. With Anthony DeSclafani due back from the DL soon following one more rehab outing, Bailey could be the one moved out of the rotation to make room. "We're going to have to really map that out, what we're going to do in the next week, 10 days, because not only that, we have a lot of off-days. We don't really have to have five starters during that time," interim manager Jim Riggleman said.
EDGE Analysis
There's not really any statistical evidence to keep Bailey in there. He has a league-worst (among qualified starters) 6.68 ERA, has allowed more hits (81) than anyone in baseball, and has been worse than his overall numbers recently. The cost of his contract is sunk already - there's no real need to keep rolling him out there to make matters worse.

Bailey (1-7) allowed eight runs (six earned) on six hits and a walk through four innings in a loss Monday against Arizona.
EDGE Analysis
Bailey continues to flounder, as he has now given up six runs in three of his last five starts to push his ERA up to a lofty 6.68. Bailey hasn't fired a quality start since April 15 against the Cardinals and has given up an absurd 13 home runs in his past eight starts. That includes two more by the Diamondbacks on Monday, not to mention a triple off the bat of Daniel Descalso. Bailey will get a chance to break his cold streak Sunday against the Padres.

Bailey (0-4) allowed five runs on six hits and one walk across five innings while taking the loss Tuesday against the Brewers. He struck out one.
EDGE Analysis
Bailey got off to a poor start in this one, allowing three runs on a pair of home runs in the first inning. He settled down over the next few frames but allowed a two-run double to Ryan Braun before closing out the fifth. Bailey was off to a promising start to the season, delivering three quality starts in his first four, but he's posted a 6.89 ERA over his last three starts while posting a 6:4 K:BB in that span. He'll take a 4.81 ERA into his next scheduled start Monday against the Mets.

Bailey allowed four runs on seven hits and one walk across five innings in a no-decision against the Braves on Thursday. He struck out one.
EDGE Analysis
Bailey was pulled after tossing just 50 pitches --38 of which were strikes -- in an attempt to spark a rally in the bottom half of the inning. It worked, as the Reds tied the game up at four in the bottom of the fifth and got Bailey off the hook for the loss, though the team still ended up losing the game. The veteran pitcher now owns a serviceable 4.19 ERA and 1.22 WHIP through six starts this season, but his 21:11 K:BB across 34.1 innings leaves much to be desired. He'll look to pick up his first win of the season when he toes the rubber next against the Brewers on Tuesday.

Bailey navigated 5.2 innings Saturday against the Cardinals, allowing three runs on seven hits and two walks. He also struck out four, but did not factor into the decision.
EDGE Analysis
The right-hander worked with runners on base all afternoon, though he only allowed runs on a pair of home runs by Paul DeJong and Dexter Fowler. He largely stayed in the zone (63 of 96 pitches for strikes), though he's already allowed four homers on the season, so perhaps he's getting a bit too much of the plate when he pitches. Bailey will look to get in the win column in his next start Thursday against the Braves.

Bailey (0-3) allowed three runs on four hits and two walks over seven innings in Sunday's 3-2 loss to the Cardinals.
EDGE Analysis
During his time in Sunday's game, Bailey struck out four batters and threw just 54 of his 90 pitches for strikes. However, although he gave up a two-run home run to Greg Garcia in the second inning, Bailey managed to recover and gave up just one more run in the following five frames. While he currently has a respectable 3.42 ERA, expectations should be kept in check for Bailey, who's turned in an ERA of 5.56 or higher in each of his last three injury-shortened seasons. His next turn in the rotation figures to be Saturday, which will be another matchup against the Cardinals.

Bailey allowed one run on two hits while striking out seven over six innings in a no-decision against the Phillies on Tuesday. He did not issue a walk.
EDGE Analysis
The right-hander took a no-hitter into the sixth inning and exceeded his strikeout total from his first two starts combined. Bailey now has a 3.24 ERA and 1.14 WHIP through 16.2 innings this season, but we've seen the downside the past few years and walks were an issue in his first two starts. It's good to see he's healthy, but nothing has really changed with his overall profile. Chasing these results is not recommended.

Bailey (0-2) gave up five runs (four earned) on seven hits, walking three and striking out two over 4.2 innings in Cincinnati's 5-2 defeat to the Pirates on Thursday.
EDGE Analysis
After shutting down the Nationals to the tune of one earned run in six innings in his first start of the season, Bailey labored against the Pirates with the four earned runs shooting his ERA up to 4.22. Bailey has thrown just 125.1 innings over the past three seasons and he's averaged a 6.21 ERA over that time, suggesting that Thursday's showing is probably more representative of his skills at this point than the solid first outing.

Bailey (0-1) allowed one run on four hits and three walks over six innings while striking out three in Friday's 2-0 loss to the Nationals.
EDGE Analysis
After wrapping up last season with seven scoreless innings in Milwaukee, the 31-year-old kicked off 2018 with another strong performance, even if he did get out-dueled by Max Scherzer. Bailey hasn't provided consistent fantasy value since 2014, but at the moment he looks healthy and ready to help stabilize a shaky Reds rotation. His next start will come Thursday in Pittsburgh.
