Salas will earn $3 million with the Mets in 2017, James Wagner of the New York Times reports.

Salas agreed to terms with the Mets pending the results of his physical earlier Friday, and now it appears that it's a done deal. He had a strong stint with the Mets down the stretch in 2016 with 19 strikeouts and zero walks across 17.1 innings and he figures to work primarily in the middle innings but could work his way into a setup role depending on Jeurys Familia's status.

The veteran reliever spent the bulk of last season with the Angels before being dealt to the Mets in August. He pitched well across 17 appearances with the Mets, notching a 3.20 ERA along with a 0.635 WHIP. Salas did not walk a singer batter during his one-month stint with the Mets. He was one of the better remaining relief arms on the free agent market and he should be a serviceable middle relief arm for the Mets provided he passes his physical.

Salas was traded from the Angels to the Mets on Wednesday, Marc Carig of Newsday reports.

EDGE Analysis

While Salas' overall numbers aren't impressive, his stat line in the second half (2.93 ERA, 3.47 FIP) tell a different story about his current state. He should provide the Mets with more depth in the bullpen as they enter roster expansion in September and continue the quest for a playoff spot, but won't be a closer like he was in Los Angeles of late. It's unclear who will take over the closer role in his place, but J.C. Ramirez may be the top candidate.

Salas allowed a hit and a walk but converted his sixth save in a scoreless ninth Tuesday over Cincinnati.

EDGE Analysis

Salas is perfect in three chances since he took over for the injured Huston Street on August 16. He has been shaky all year long, though, as he has served up nine home runs (1.5 HR/9) and has just 45 strikeouts in 55.1 innings, a profile that along with his 4.47 ERA screams disaster waiting to happen.

Salas pitched a scoreless inning while striking out two to record his fourth save of the season Sunday against the Yankees.

EDGE Analysis

Salas now has four saves to go with five blown saves on the year, and he owns a 4.56 ERA to go with a 1.26 WHIP. He currently owns the highest ERA of his seven-year career.

Salas picked up his third save as he worked around a hit for a scoreless ninth Tuesday against the Mariners.

EDGE Analysis

Salas has been mediocre this season (4.38 ERA, 39:18 K:BB in 51.1 innings), but with Cam Bedrosian and Huston Street both injured, he'll be the Angels go-to man for saves until they're back. Salas has closer experience, as he saved 24 games for St. Louis way back in 2011, but he has just one season with an ERA under 4.00 since then, so he shouldn't be considered a reliable option to close out games.

Salas has allowed four runs over 7.1 innings pitched during July.

EDGE Analysis

The 31-year-old right-hander had a 2.45 ERA on June 1, but it has now climbed to 4.87. Additionally, he has 10 strikeouts in that span, after posting 22 over April and May. Earlier in the year, he was the closer when Huston Street needed a rest day, but he hasn't been afforded those same opportunities recently.

Salas has thrown 5.2 innings in the month of June, allowing seven earned runs in that time.

EDGE Analysis

After posting a 2.45 ERA across his first 24 games (25.2 innings) of the season, Salas hit a rough patch in June. His ERA has shot up to 4.02 for the season, but he still has a respectable 1.09 WHIP. Left-handed batters seem to be the main problem for Salas, as they're hitting .278 with a .537 slugging percentage when he's on the mound. Although he's been struggling recently, Salas will likely continue to see regular innings, for just two pitchers in the Angels' bullpen have an ERA below 3.00.

Salas picked up his second save behind a clean inning with a strikeout in Monday's win over the Dodgers.

EDGE Analysis

Salas and Joe Smith continue to alternate save opportunities. This was a bounceback for Salas, who blew the save Saturday against Seattle as he allowed a run on two hits and only got one out. Even with that rough outing, Salas has solid numbers on the season, as Monday's clean inning lowered his ERA to 2.29 to go with 18 strikeouts in 19.2 innings. Neither Salas nor Smith is likely to keep the closer's role once Huston Street returns from an oblique injury.

Smith is 2-for-2 in save opportunities since Huston Street (oblique) went on the DL, but Salas' impressive 1.96 ERA and 0.76 WHIP are far more impressive and could earn him a share of the ninth-inning duties until Street returns.
