MLB.com's Jesse Sanchez says re-signing Eric Chavez has "become a priority" for the Diamondbacks. But the veteran infielder is also drawing interest from several other clubs -- including the Rangers, Yankees, Marlins and Rays -- so it might take more than Arizona is willing to give. Chavez hit .281/.332/.478 with nine home runs and 44 RBI in 80 games this past season for the Diamondbacks. He turned 36 years old on December 7.

CBS Sports' Jon Heyman reports that the Marlins are interested in Eric Chavez. They join seven other clubs in pursuit of the third baseman. The bad news for the Marlins is that Chavez is looking to join a contender, and the Fish probably can't top other offers, anyway. The Rangers, Rays, Pirates, Yankees, Nationals, Diamondbacks and Braves are also interested in Chavez.

CBS Sports' Jon Heyman reports that Rangers, Rays, Pirates, Yankees, Nationals, Diamondbacks and Braves are among the teams who have expressed interest in Eric Chavez. A return to New York could be complicated by the team's recent addition of Kelly Johnson. Chavez earned $3 million this past season with the Diamondbacks while hitting .281/.332/.478 with nine home runs and 44 RBI in 80 games. The high level of interest in a weak market for corner infielders should net him a nice contract.

Diamondbacks GM Kevin Towers "sounds OK" waiting on free agent third baseman Eric Chavez to decide where he wants to play, according to The Arizona Republic's Nick Piecoro. Chavez signed a one-year, $3 million contract with Arizona last winter and went on to hit .281/.332/.478 with nine home runs and 44 RBI in 80 games. Those numbers have ensured multiple suitors this winter, but Chavez most wants to win, according to Towers, and is monitoring Arizona's off-season moves.

Diamondbacks activated 3B Eric Chavez from the 15-day disabled list. Chavez has dealt with knee and hip issues dating back before the All-Star break, but he's finally ready to give it a go. He's batted .299/.343/.526 this season and will play third base pretty regularly against right-handed pitching.

Eric Chavez (knee, hip) has been cleared for a rehab assignment. Chavez is currently with the Diamondbacks' rookie-league affiliate and will likely only need a few games before being activated. He's eligible to return from the DL on Sunday and should rejoin the team for their upcoming homestand next week.

Eric Chavez (knee, hip) is expected to be activated from the disabled list on August 25, the first day he's eligible. Chavez went on the DL with a sore left knee, but he's been dealing with hip stiffness for over a month. "We'll plan on 15 days and hope that's all it takes," Diamondbacks manager Kirk Gibson said. "He's getting better."

Eric Chavez went 2-for-4 with a home run and three RBI against the Rays on Wednesday. Chavez got the start at DH in the interleague tilt and responded, taking Jeremy Hellickson deep for a two-run homer in the third inning. It was his ninth home run in 174 at-bats this year, and he's been getting more playing time at third base in recent weeks due to his hot bat. The 35-year-old is hitting .305/.353/.546 this season but isn't a mixed league option barring injury to one of the D'backs regulars.
