Navarro is on track to open the season as the backup in Toronto behind Russell Martin, the Blue Jays' official site reports. Injuries elsewhere may drum up interest in Navarro on the trade market. Signed to a two-year deal by the Blue Jays last offseason, Navarro is owed $5 million in 2015. With twice as many at-bats as he received in 2013, Navarro hit one fewer home run (12) last season while carrying a .274/.317/.395 line for Toronto. If he remains on the roster, Navarro could also compete with Justin Smoak for at-bats, pushing Edwin Encarnacion to first base and allowing the backup catcher to see time as the team's DH.

Navarro (head) is back in the lineup Friday against the Yankees, John Lott of the National Post reports. Navarro was afforded two days to shake the cobwebs after taking a foul ball off his catcher's mask Tuesday, but he'll step back in Friday to face right-hander Hiroki Kuroda. While Navarro is batting .317/.383/.561 so far this month, he's just 1-for-6 with a single in his career against Kuroda.

Navarro (head) is not in the lineup Thursday against the Yankees, Barry Davis of Sportsnet.ca reports. Navarro will sit for a second straight day, after taking a foul ball off his facemask during Tuesday's game. Josh Thole is the personal catcher for Thursday's starter R.A. Dickey, so Navarro would have sat anyway. Consider Navarro day-to-day ahead of Friday's tilt.

Updating a previous report, Navarro is out of the lineup Wednesday after he took a foul ball off his catcher's mask Tuesday night, Barry Davis of Sportsnet reports. The Blue Jays will presumably put Navarro through a number of tests to determine whether or not he suffered a concussion as a result of the incident. Since the team is effectively out of the running for a Wild Card berth, it wouldn't be surprising if Navarro is kept out a few days as a precaution. Josh Thole and George Kottaras would serve as the Jays' primary catchers until Navarro is cleared to return.

Navarro is not in the lineup Saturday against the Rays, Barry Davis of Sportsnet.ca reports. Josh Thole will handle his normal duties as R.A. Dickey's personal catcher, as Navarro sits following an 0-for-4, three-strikeout performance Friday. Despite the poor showing, Navarro is still batting .379 with two homers so far in September.

Navarro was 2-for-2 with a pair of walks and a two-run home run in the Jays' win over Tampa Bay on Wednesday night. He has put together a solid season and now has 12 home runs and 61 RBI to go with a respectable .283 average. He gets the majority of the work behind the plate with the Jays and can be a useful catcher in most fantasy formats.
