Holland is scheduled to start Tuesday against the Brewers, Tom Haudricourt of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reports.
EDGE Analysis
The veteran left-hander opens the season as the Pirates' No. 4 starter, but he'll end up taking the fifth game of the season. Holland also lines up to pitch Sunday against the Cubs for a two-start week. He mostly worked out of the bullpen last season between the Giants and Cubs with a 6.08 ERA and 1.51 WHIP over 84.1 innings.

The Pirates selected Holland's contract Thursday.
EDGE Analysis
Since he joined Pittsburgh on a minor-league deal over the winter, Holland wasn't added to the 40-man roster until Thursday, but his spot in the big-league rotation had been fairly secure since spring training concluded. He's expected to begin the 60-game season as the Pirates' fourth starter, with his first turn likely to come in Monday's home opener versus the Brewers.

Holland gave up three runs (two earned) on five hits and one walk in three innings Wednesday. He struck out a pair of batters.
EDGE Analysis
He served up a home run to Carlos Santana. In 2019, Holland surrendered 17 homers in only 68.2 innings for San Francisco, compiling a 5.90 ERA and 1.50 WHIP. The lefty will start one of Pittsburgh's first home games against the Brewers. The team would likely be satisfied with an earned run average somewhere around 5.00 from Holland -- his exact mark over the last five seasons (148 appearances).

Holland, who was included in the team's 60-man player pool, is likely to serve as the team's fourth starter.
EDGE Analysis
The season-ending injury to Chris Archer secured Holland's rotation spot. The lefty compiled a 3.95 ERA in 13.2 innings this spring, though five of the ten hits he allowed left the ballpark. He gives the Pirates a known pitching commodity at age 33, but he's failed to register an earned run average under 4.91 in five of the last six seasons.

Following the injury to Steven Brault (shoulder), Holland becomes the frontrunner for the team's No. 5 spot in the starting rotation.
EDGE Analysis
He's pitched well in two outings, allowing two runs in 4.1 innings with seven strikeouts. Aside from 2018, when he compiled a 3.57 ERA for the Giants, Holland hasn't finished with an earned run average lower than 4.91 since 2014. The lefty does have a favorable pitcher's park for southpaws in PNC Park, however.

Holland allowed two runs on three hits in 1.2 innings Sunday. He struck out five without walking a batter.
EDGE Analysis
The lefty is competing with Steven Brault and perhaps Chad Kuhl for the team's fifth starter spot. He surrendered an opposite-field homer on the game's second pitch but then settled down with a solid outing. Holland has an opt-out at the end of spring training if he's not on the team's Opening Day roster. Brault, who has one minor-league option remaining, retired the side in order on eight pitches (six strikes) Sunday.

Holland joined the Pirates on a minor-league deal Friday, Rob Biertempfel of The Athletic reports.
EDGE Analysis
Holland will receive a big-league camp invitation as part of the deal and can opt out if he doesn't make the Opening Day roster. The veteran spent the majority of the 2019 campaign in the bullpen for the first time in his career and didn't experience much success, struggling to a 6.08 ERA in 84.1 innings with the Giants and Cubs. His ERA has now come in north of 6.00 in two of the last three seasons.

Holland is now a free agent after the Cubs declined to exercise his club option for the 2020 season Saturday.
EDGE Analysis
Holland was acquired by the Cubs from the Giants ahead of the trade deadline, but he posted worse numbers after the move with a 6.89 ERA, 1.53 WHIP and 11:10 K:BB over 15.2 innings for Chicago. The 33-year-old began the season as a starter before being shifted to the bullpen and ended up finishing the year as somewhat of a left-handed specialist.

Holland (2-5) took the loss Sunday against the Cardinals, allowing seven runs on five hits and four walks across two innings.
EDGE Analysis
Holland was making his first start since May and it didn't go well. The lefty finishes 2019 with a 6.08 ERA and 1.51 WHIP across 84.1 innings of work. It was a disappointing campaign for Holland, who turned in a respectable 3.57 ERA and 1.29 WHIP in 36 games (30 starts) a season ago. He could get a look as a back-end starter or long reliever in 2020, though he likely won't carry much fantasy value.

Holland is scheduled to start Sunday's season finale at St. Louis, Mark Gonzales of the Chicago Tribune reports.
EDGE Analysis
Holland began the season as a starter for the Giants but hasn't made a start since May. The veteran lefty topped 20 pitches only twice in 19 outings since joining the Cubs, so he figures to be the first in a long list of relievers set to pitch. Holland has a 3.29 ERA, 1.10 WHIP and 11:6 K:BB across 13.2 frames since the trade.
