Holland owns a 3.38 ERA with six strikeouts over eight innings (two starts) this spring.
EDGE Analysis
The Giants retained Holland after he proved effective as their fifth starter last season (3.57 ERA and 2.5 K/BB ratio over 171.1 innings). The veteran southpaw's path to a rotation spot seemed secure prior to the club signing Drew Pomeranz this offseason. Holland should still be considered the clubhouse leader in terms of winning the fifth-starter job -- that's assuming Pomeranz holds the fourth spot -- but he will still have to fend off several younger options vying for his job this spring. If the southpaw begins the year in the rotation, his high strikeout rate and favorable home park make him worth a look in deeper formats.

Holland signed a one-year, $7 million contract with the Giants on Monday, Ken Rosenthal of The Athletic reports. The deal includes a club option.
EDGE Analysis
Holland will return to San Francisco after posting a respectable 3.57 ERA, 8.9 K/9 and 3.5 BB/9 across 171.1 innings (30 starts, six relief appearances) with the Giants in 2018. The southpaw should have the inside track at a back-end rotation spot, and returning to pitcher-friendly AT&T Park (now Oracle Park) should help him repeat some of his 2018 success.

Holland allowed four runs on five hits and two walks while striking out six over five innings in Tuesday's win over the Padres. He did not factor into the decision.
EDGE Analysis
Holland got into trouble early, allowing a run in the opening frame and was later taken deep for a two-run homer in the fifth. Following a series of fourth straight quality starts, this was just the second time since May the southpaw allowed four earned runs. He'll take a solid 3.57 ERA and 9.1 K/9 into a rematch against the Padres at home Monday.

Holland didn't factor into the decision against the Braves on Wednesday, despite a strong outing that saw him give up just one earned run on five hits over six innings, strike out seven and walk one in a 2-1 defeat for the Giants.
EDGE Analysis
It was another strong line for the left-hander, who has now fired quality starts in four of his last five outings. Holland had issued at least three free passes in three of those starts, so it was encouraging to see him demonstrate better command in this contest against a formidable Braves lineup. He's now sporting a solid 3.46 ERA and a 1.26 WHIP to go along with 159 strikeouts through 158.2 innings and will have an inviting matchup when he looks to keep the strong run going against the Padres next Tuesday.

Holland didn't factor into the decision in Friday's 4-2 loss to the Brewers, allowing two runs on two hits and five walks over six innings while striking out eight.
EDGE Analysis
It was the southpaw's third straight quality start, although Holland's 15:11 K:BB in 18.1 innings over that stretch indicates just how fragile his current run of success has been. He'll carry a 3.54 ERA into his next outing Wednesday at home against the Braves.

Holland threw six innings of one-run ball Saturday, allowing four hits and three walks while striking out three, but he didn't factor into the decision during the Giants' loss in to the Mets in 11 innings.
EDGE Analysis
Holland dueled with fellow southpaw Steven Matz, but neither was handed a decision as this one needed extra baseball. The Giants have to be pleased with Holland has offered this season. Often regarded as an innings-eater, this might be a renewed breakout campaign: 3.56 ERA, 8.8 K/9 and 3.4 BB/9 in 26 starts (146.2 innings) including Saturday's useful outing. He'll face a stiffer test in his next assignment, though, when he heads to Milwaukee on Friday.

Holland (7-8) tossed 6.1 innings Sunday, allowing one run on three hits and three walks in the 3-1 win over Texas. He struck out four and earned the victory.
EDGE Analysis
Aside from an RBI double off the bat of Elvis Andrus in the third inning, Holland held his former team in check for most of the afternoon. Over his last three starts, the 31-year-old lefty has allowed just two runs in 16 innings, bringing his ERA down to 3.65 across 140.2 innings this season. Holland will face the Mets at home on Saturday.

Holland allowed one run on four hits and one walk across five innings Monday in a no-decision against the Mets. He struck out five.
EDGE Analysis
Holland was touched up for a run on two hits in the first inning, but he allowed just three baserunners the rest of the way. Though he could've easily pitched deeper into the game, the hosts ran up his pitch count with 21 foul balls which led to an early exit for the lefty. Holland's control improved in this outing after he'd walked multiple batters in three of his last four starts, lowering his WHIP to a manageable 1.30 on the season. He's still completed six full innings just twice in his last eight turns and will look to buck that trend this weekend against the Rangers.

Holland didn't factor into the decision in Wednesday's loss to the Dodgers, pitching 4.2 shutout innings with seven strikeouts against six hits and four walks.
EDGE Analysis
Holland pitched well for the most part -- two of the four walks were intentional -- but he racked up a high pitch count, needing 93 pitches (55 strikes) without getting out of the fifth. The lefty hasn't been working deep into games with much regularity, but Wednesday's outing was the sixth time in his last seven starts allowing two or fewer runs. On the year Holland has a respectable 3.83 ERA and 9.2 K/9, heading into Monday's start against the Mets.

Holland didn't factor into the decision Wednesday against the Mariners but had a solid performance, allowing two runs (one earned) on three hits and a walk while striking out four in six innings.
EDGE Analysis
Holland allowed a run in each of the first two innings before settling down to throw four straight scoreless frames. He now has quality starts in his last two starts. How long he remains in the rotation could depend on the health of Jeff Samardzija's shoulder, which is currently unclear. Another similar start or two could see the lefty stick around even when Samardzija returns, though. He's expected to take the hill again Monday against the Padres.
