DeJesus is out of Saturday's lineup against the Orioles, Roger Mooney of The Tampa Tribune reports. While it's not crazy the 35-year-old DeJesus is getting a day off, it is curious that middle infielder Tim Beckham is getting the start at designated hitter while Joey Butler takes left field. There were previous reports of DeJesus taking groundballs at first, but the Tampa Bay Times is reporting that Kevin Cash won't be playing DeJesus there any time soon. Instead, they'll go with career middle infielder Jake Elmore.

DeJesus was taking throws at first base prior to Tuesday's game, 620 WDAE's Steve Carney reports. Tim Beckham was also taking throws at first base as the Rays appear to be getting a little creative in a search to replace James Loney (finger) in the short term. DeJesus already sees a lot of action at DH and in the outfield for Tampa Bay, but some starts at first base could add another position of eligibility for his owners to utilize.

DeJesus is not in the lineup Monday against the Mariners, Shannon Drayer of ESPN reports. DeJesus will take a seat after starting the last two games, giving way to Jake Elmore in left field as Joey Butler handles DH duties versus Seattle left Roenis Elias.

DeJesus is out of the lineup Friday. Joey Butler will get the start in left with Logan Forsythe starting at DH on Friday. The A's are starting southpaw Scott Kazmir so it makes sense that DeJesus (also a lefty) will start Friday's game on the bench.

DeJesus is out of the lineup Sunday against the Rangers, Matt Baker of the Tampa Bay Times reports. The Rays have been rotating the corner outfield and DH spots between DeJesus, Brandon Guyer, and Joey Butler of late, and manager Kevin Cash opted to stick with the latter two players for Sunday's lineup with the Rangers starting a left-hander in Wandy Rodriguez. The 35-year-old DeJesus is off to an excellent start to the season with a .300 average, two homers, and 11 RBI, and should remain a mainstay in the lineup against right-handed pitching.

DeJesus is out of the lineup Sunday against the Orioles, Marc Topkin of the Tampa Bay Times reports. DeJesus has worked his way into the lineup for five straight games while Desmond Jennings had been nursing a knee injury, but he'll take a seat Sunday with left-hander Wei-Yin Chen on the hill for the Orioles. Brandon Guyer will take over in left field, while the newly-recalled Joey Butler serves as the DH.

DeJesus is out of the lineup Saturday. The Rays are up against lefty Daniel Norris, and will opt to sit most of their replaceable lefty bats. Tim Beckham will get the start at DH on Saturday.

DeJesus is out of the lineup for Tuesday's game against the Red Sox, Roger Mooney of The Tampa Tribune reports. With left-handed Wade Miley taking the bump for Boston, it's no surprise to see DeJesus out of the lineup. The veteran outfielder has yet to get an at-bat against a southpaw this season, despite crushing right-handers to the tune of a .417/.481/.625 slash line through 24 at-bats. Given DeJesus' ugly track record against lefties, he'll likely stick in the strict platoon role all season.

DeJesus is out of the lineup Tuesday against the Blue Jays. DeJesus is off to nice start this season (6-for-14 with a homer) but manager Kevin Cash will play the matchups with a lefty in Daniel Norris on the hill for Toronto, something the skipper figures to do all year long. There is not a single lefty-only bat in the Rays' lineup Tuesday.

DeJesus went 2-for-3 with a three-run homer in the Rays' win over the Marlins on Sunday. With John Jaso (wrist) on the disabled list and still unable to swing a bat, DeJesus could see an uptick in playing time over the coming weeks, specifically against right-handed starters. In the two games he's played thus far, DeJesus has been used in the leadoff spot and in the No. 2 hole, which should enable him to generate plenty of runs scored if he's able to hold down one of those spots. It's reasonable to think that DeJesus would have started more games during the weekend series if the Rays had not been on the road in Miami without the flexibility of the DH spot. DeJesus may see as many as five starts in the upcoming week, as the Rays will match up with a pair of AL East rivals.
