Straily (1-1) allowed one run on two hits with two strikeouts and a walk across five innings in a victory against the Red Sox on Monday.
EDGE Analysis
This was a sight for sore eyes, as Straily began the year allowing five runs in each of his first two starts. His first two outings went so poorly that even after the strong start Monday, Straily still owns a 10.24 ERA. He is also 1-1 with a 1.86 WHIP and two strikeouts in 9.2 innings. Straily's next start should be at home against the Twins on Saturday.

Straily (0-1) allowed five earned runs on eight hits with no walks and no strikeouts across 3.1 innings to take the loss Wednesday against the Athletics.
EDGE Analysis
Straily escaped a jam in the first inning, but allowed at least one run in the remaining three innings in which he pitched. He didn't have much working for him in the outing, as he allowed four extra-base hits -- two of which were home runs -- and generated only four swinging strikes. He's had a tough time getting up to speed since signing with the Orioles on April 5, surrendering 10 earned runs in 4.2 innings of work.

Straily will start Wednesday's game against the Athletics, Roch Kubatko of MASN Sports reports.
EDGE Analysis
The Orioles put Straily in the bullpen after signing him on Friday, but Alex Cobb's (back) return to the injured list accelerated his move to the starting rotation . The 30-year-old made his season debut Sunday against the Yankees and gave up five runs -- including two home runs -- over 1.1 innings. Straily threw 44 pitches in that appearance, so it remains unclear whether he'll be available for a typical starter's workload on only two days rest.

The Orioles made Straily available out of the bullpen for Sunday's game against the Yankees, Roch Kubatko of MASN Sports reports.
EDGE Analysis
Straily has worked almost exclusively as a starter since reaching the big leagues in 2012, but the Orioles will let him get his feet wet in relief before summoning him into the rotation. Though manager Brandon Hyde announced that Nathan Karns will move to relief on a full-time basis, the Orioles will turn to John Means to fill the opening in the rotation Tuesday against the Athletics. Means likely won't have much of a leash in the starting role, however, so it wouldn't be surprising if Straily was called on to replace Means when his subsequent turn comes up April 14 in Boston.

Straily signed a major-league deal with the Orioles on Friday, Craig Mish of Sirius XM reports.
EDGE Analysis
Straily was released by the Marlins just before the start of the regular season after the team informed him he would not make the Opening Day roster. The 30-year-old had a 4.20 ERA, 1.30 WHIP and 269:122 K:BB in 56 starts over the last two seasons in Miami. Straily figures to round out the Orioles' starting rotation as they used an opener during their first turn through the rotation.

Marlins president of baseball operations Mike Hill confirmed Monday that Straily was released by the team rather than designated for assignment, Andre Fernandez of The Athletic reports.
EDGE Analysis
Though Straily was due only $5 million in salary, the Marlins apparently couldn't find any teams willing to take on the right-hander via trade after shopping him around the open market. Now that the 30-year-old is officially a free agent, he shouldn't have trouble finding work elsewhere after turning in a cumulative 4.30 ERA, 1.30 WHIP and 8.0 K/9 across 56 starts with the Marlins the past two seasons. It's possible that a team in need of extra starting-pitching depth even extends Straily the opportunity to fill a back-end rotation spot right away, though it likely wouldn't come with much job security.

The Marlins informed Straily on Monday that they will designate him for assignment, Craig Mish of Sirius XM reports.
EDGE Analysis
The transaction is somewhat surprising for the Marlins, given that the 30-year-old had started 56 games for the club over the past two seasons while posting a 4.20 ERA and 8.0 K/9 during that span. However, with Straily enduring a rough spring training and the rebuilding Marlins eager to open up rotation spots for youngsters Pablo Lopez and Sandy Alcantara, the organization determined the veteran was expendable. He could latch on with another team in need of starting depth or a long-relief arm through trade or the waiver wire prior to Opening Day.

Straily gave up four runs on eight hits -- including two home runs -- and two walks while striking out two over 3.2 innings in Thursday's Grapefruit League game against the Astros.
EDGE Analysis
The right-hander got taken deep by Alex Bregman and Robinson Chirinos. Homers have been plaguing Straily all spring, and despite a solid 10:3 K:BB through 11.1 innings, he's saddled with a 7.15 ERA thanks to six long balls. His track record over the last few seasons should be enough to ensure he breaks camp in the Marlins' rotation despite those numbers, but Straily will be a very risky fantasy option if he can't get the gopheritis under control.

Straily gave up three runs on four hits -- including two home runs -- over 2.1 innings in Sunday's Grapefruit League game against the Braves. He struck out two.
EDGE Analysis
Tyler Flowers and Adam Duvall took the right-hander deep, a marked departure from the two scoreless innings Straily tossed in his spring debut. Having difficulty keeping the ball in the park is nothing new for the 30-year-old -- he's posted a HR/9 around 1.5 in each of the last three seasons, which limits his fantasy utility to NL-only and deep mixed formats.

Straily and the Marlins reached agreement on a one-year, $5 million deal Friday, avoiding arbitration, Bob Nightengale of USA Today reports.
EDGE Analysis
Straily pitched capably enough in 23 starts for Miami last season, finishing the year with a 4.12 ERA. He missed the start of the year with a forearm injury and enters the upcoming season with potential injury concerns as well, as an oblique issue shut him down in early September.
