Alexi Ogando (elbow) will remain shut down for three more weeks. Ogando received a second opinion from Dr. James Andrews, who confirmed the original diagnoses that the righty is dealing with inflammation and ligament "wear and tear" in his right elbow. He'll try to return sometime next month.

Alexi Ogando is dealing with "acute inflammation" and "some old wear and tear" in his right elbow. Ogando was placed on the disabled list Wednesday and will be shut down for a minimum of three weeks. At the very least, it looks like the Rangers might not get him back until after the All-Star break.

Alexi Ogando (elbow) has been shut down for a minimum of three weeks. Ogando was placed on the disabled list Wednesday due to what was termed as right elbow inflammation. Evan Grant of the Dallas Morning News reports that something was found during the MRI, but the exact diagnosis isn't yet known. The 30-year-old owns an ugly 6.84 ERA and 1.92 WHIP in 25 relief innings this season.

Rangers placed RHP Alexi Ogando on the 15-day disabled list with right elbow inflammation. Ogando has registered a disappointing 6.84 ERA and 1.92 WHIP in 25 innings this season out of the Texas bullpen. He'll likely undergo some tests on the elbow. It's another tally for the Rangers' growing injury total.

Alexi Ogando left an appearance Saturday against the Blue Jays with a bruised right hand. Ogando was struck on the hand by a line drive. X-rays came up negative and he should be fine in a few days, though the Rangers could use this opportunity to send him to the 15-day disabled list for a lengthy rehab assignment. Ogando has a rough 7.64 ERA on the year.

Alexi Ogando pitched a perfect ninth inning against the Astros to earn his first save of the season Sunday. Rangers closer Joakim Soria had pitched in two straight games, so when a save situation presented itself Sunday Rangers manager Ron Washington turned to Ogando. He responded by not allowing a baserunner in closing out the one-run game. Soria's job still isn't in danger, but it's interesting to know Ogando is next in line should Soria falter.

Rangers manager Ron Washington said Thursday that Alexi Ogando and Neal Cotts will be his primary setup men. He said the order in which they pitch will depends on game situations. Ogando entered spring training as a starter, but the club has decided that he's better off in relief in spite of all the injuries they've had in the rotation. Neftali Feliz figures to eventually work his way into a late-inning role after he figures things out in the minors.

Rangers manager Ron Washington announced Saturday that Alexi Ogando will work out of a setup role in the Rangers bullpen. Ogando entered camp as a favorite to begin the season in the Rangers rotation, but struggled with a 6.35 ERA, 2.12 WHIP and 9/4 K/BB ratio in his 11 1/3 innings. He'll share the setup role presumably with Neftali Feliz.

T.R. Sullivan of MLB.com reports that Alexi Ogando could get bumped to the bullpen. Texas needs to identify a long reliever and Ogando has inexplicably thrown his hat into the ring by getting abused to the tune of 11 runs over 6 1/3 innings in his last two starts. The right-hander was removed in awkward fashion from his last start, as his skipper sent him out for the fourth inning only to yank Ogando after a few warmup pitches. "We messed up and forgot to tell him he wasn't supposed to go back out there," Ron Washington said. "Blame it on me." Said Ogando: "I wanted to keep pitching." The race for the final three spots in the rotation will come down to righties Ogando, Colby Lewis, Tanner Scheppers, Tommy Hanson, and southpaws Joe Saunders and Robbie Ross.
