Ogando was added to the Braves' roster Saturday.
EDGE Analysis
In camp as an NRI, Ogando enjoyed a strong spring and will likely work in middle relief out of the Atlanta bullpen. Last season, as a member of the Red Sox, Ogando posted a 3.99 ERA, nearly halving his ERA (6.84) from 2014.

Ogando signed a minor league contract with the Braves on Wednesday that includes an invite to the team's spring training, Mark Bowman of MLB.com reports.
EDGE Analysis
Ogando enjoyed a bit of a bounce back with the Red Sox in 2015, cutting his ERA from 2014 (6.84) down to a respectable 3.99 mark. That said, his FIP was alarmingly high at 5.32, which indicates that he could be due for a regression to the mean in 2016. However, he'll have a chance to make the Braves' Opening Day roster if he can put together a solid spring training.

Ogando elected free agency after being outrighted off the 40-man roster Friday, Pete Abraham of the Boston Globe reports.
EDGE Analysis
Ogando had a mostly successful season in Boston, working to a 3.99 ERA with 53 strikeouts in 65.1 innings, but it apparently wasn't enough to convince the Red Sox to keep him on the roster. He should be able to find a role in the middle of a bullpen wherever he lands.

Ogando allowed two runs on one hit and one walk while striking out three in 2.1 innings in Sunday's loss to the Yankees. Ogando pitched parts of three innings, getting his pitch count up beyond where it typically is. Manager John Farrell did not have Junichi Tazawa available after he threw 31 pitches Saturday, and he doesn't have confidence in other members of the bullpen, so he extended Ogando. When Farrell has kept Ogando in the three to four outs range, the reliever has been pretty effective.

Ogando got four outs, striking out one, in Tuesday night's win over the Blue Jays. He hasn't been touched for a run in 11 consecutive appearances, covering a span of 11.2 innings. Ogando got the call in the high-leverage eighth inning, bridging to closer Koji Uehara, probably because Toronto has had success against usual setup man Junichi Tazawa. Ogando lowered his ERA to 2.88 with the outing, its lowest point since early April.

Ogando pitched a scoreless ninth inning in Monday night's loss to the Braves. It was his third consecutive scoreless outing after a stretch in which he allowed runs in three of four appearances. Ogando's body of work this season is rather pedestrian -- 19 strikeouts, nine walks and a 3.67 ERA over 27 innings -- but he's the least of Boston's problems.

Ogando worked the eighth inning Tuesday night and picked up his third hold of the season with a scoreless inning. This would normally be a spot for Junichi Tazawa, but not Tuesday. There's no indication that Ogando is replacing Tazawa as the primary set up man. It was probably a decision borne of Tazawa needing 29 pitches the night before in a lackluster appearance in which he allowed two walks, a hit, and an inherited runner to score.

Ogando allowed two inherited runners to score in Tuesday night's win over the Nationals. He allowed a hit while striking out two in 1.1 innings. Ogando has followed up two clean relief innings with a couple of sketchy ones. The two inherited runs, charged to starter Justin Masterson, gave Washington a lead.

Ogando pitched a clean seventh inning in Friday night's win over the Yankees. That's two straight 1-2-3 innings for the right-hander. Ogando induced several uncomfortable swings and has looked like his old self in two appearances. He and Junichi Tazawa set up the game for fill-in closer Edward Mujica, who promptly blew the save when he served up a ninth-inning homer. If Ogando continues to impress, he may move ahead of Mujica as Boston's fill-in when closer Koji Uehara is unavailable or if he gets injured.

Ogando, who retired all three batters faced in Wednesday's loss to the Phillies, had his fastball in the 93-95 mph range, the Boston Globe reports. Ogando has regained a good portion of his fastball velocity after an injury-marred 2014 season. It was an encouraging outing on a cold and damp night.
