Ogando was lit up for three runs on four hits and two walks in two-thirds of an inning against the Twins on Wednesday. The good news is that his fastball hit 95 mph. Ogando had been impressive until Wednesday's outing. So impressive that he was one of the relievers mentioned that could pick up save opportunities early in the season while Koji Uehara deals with a hamstring injury.

Ogando could serve as a backup closer if Koji Uehara (hamstring) can't serve in the role, WEEI.com reports. Manager John Farrell talked about Ogando and Edward Mujica filling in if needed. "It depends on matchups, history, who has pitched recently," Farrell said. "There could be a number of things that come into play. I can't say just always ride the hot hand. Those guys are going to find themselves in the highest leverage and that could be in the seventh inning as well, depending where we are in the lineup."

Ogando threw a dominant inning in Monday's game against the Mets, WEEI.com reports. He struck out two and induced a popup. "Domination, pretty much. He looked good," said Red Sox catcher Ryan Hannigan. "Good fastball command and an exceptional slider. Locked guys up and did his thing. It was pretty obvious." Ogando's had two consecutive clean innings and has struck out five in 4.0 innings.

Ogando, who pitched a clean inning in Thursday's game against the Pirates, can be a weapon against the quality right-handed hitters in the A.L. East, ESPN Boston reports. Red Sox manager John Farrell is liking what he's seeing from Ogando early on, telling reporters Thursday that he "could be one of the biggest keys" if his arm strength reaches previous levels. The manager noted the right-handed bats he'll face in the division, including Jose Bautista, Edwin Encarnacion and Josh Donaldson in Toronto, Adam Jones and J.J. Hardy in Baltimore, and Evan Longoria and Desmond Jennings of Tampa Bay.

Ogando hit 95 on the radar gun while making his spring-training debut Thursday night against the Twins. The Red Sox are looking to see if Ogando can regain the velocity he once had prior to last season's elbow injury. If he's capable and remains healthy, Ogando will lock up a spot in Boston's bullpen.

Ogando (elbow) agreed to a one-year contract with the Red Sox on Friday, pending a physical, Ken Rosenthal of FOX Sports reports. The right-hander battled injury and ineffectiveness en route to a 6.84 ERA and 1.92 WHIP in 27 appearances last season, leading the Rangers to decline to tender him a contract for 2015. Now with Boston on a major league deal, Ogando will look to return to form and claim a spot toward the back end of the bullpen, though everything will hinge on the health of his elbow. He opted against pitching in the Dominican Winter League in favor of additional rest.

The Rangers will not tender Ogando (elbow) a contract, making him a free agent. Ogando has certainly had some moments for fantasy owners in recent years, highlighted by his 2011 campaign when he posted a 3.51 ERA over 169 innings, mostly as a starter. However, injuries have been a big part of his narrative in recent seasons, and he posted a 6.84 ERA in 25 relief innings in 2014, which prompted the Rangers to cut him loose. He opted not to pitch in the Dominican Winter League to rest his ailing elbow, which also forced him to be shut down midway through the 2014 season.
