Reed was placed on the 10-day disabled list due to right triceps tightness, Brandon Warne of Zone Coverage reports.
EDGE Analysis
It appears as though Reed must have suffered this injury during Tuesday's relief appearance against the Royals, during which he allowed three runs off three hits across one inning of work. The Twins have yet to officially announce a timetable for Reed's eventual return date, but that is sure to come to light within the next few days. In a corresponding move, Alan Busenitz was called up from the minors.

Manager Paul Molitor said Reed has been "at least temporarily" taken out of the setup role, Mike Berardino of the St. Paul Pioneer Press reports. "I'm going to use him when I think it's the right time. I'm not sure exactly when that's going to be right now."
EDGE Analysis
Reed has worked just once over the last eight days, allowing four runs (three earned) on five hits while recording just two outs. He now owns a 3.78 ERA and 1.35 WHIP across 33.1 innings this season after posting a shiny 2.84 ERA and 1.05 WHIP across 76 innings last season, so Molitor will manage his usage in the coming weeks as he looks to get the right-hander back on track. Look for Trevor Hildenberger and Taylor Rogers to serve as the primary setup men to Fernando Rodney while Reed works through his issues.

Reed (1-5) took the loss Wednesday after allowing four runs (three earned) on five hits while recording just two outs against the Tigers.
EDGE Analysis
Reed entered to start the eighth with Minnesota up a run, but after retiring the first batter he proceeded to give up hits to five of the next six to take the loss and a blown save. It's been a rough couple of weeks for the 29-year-old; in his last seven outings, he's given up at least one run in five and has been charged with two losses and three blown saves in that span.

Reed gave up a home run in one inning in Friday's loss to the Angels. He's given up three home runs with two walks and just one strikeout in his last four innings over four appearances.
EDGE Analysis
Reed has hit a rough patch that may be due to overuse as he's appeared in 30 of Minnesota's first 60 games. He's seen a slight decline in his peripheral stats with a 8.5 K/9 and 1.7 HR/9 which has resulted in a 4.91 FIP vs. 3.13 ERA. He's still generating enough strikeouts to be a solid setup man if his workload isn't an issue.

Reed (illness) threw 1.2 scoreless innings with a strikeout in Wednesday's win over Houston.
EDGE Analysis
Reed wasn't available Tuesday due to strep throat, but was well enough Wednesday to pitch. He's off to a nice start to the season with only one run allowed and nine strikeouts in eight innings.

Reed is "doing much better" Wednesday after being sent home with strep throat Tuesday, manager Paul Molitor told Mike Berardino of the St. Paul Pioneer Press.
EDGE Analysis
It's not clear if Reed will be available for Wednesday's day game against the Astros, but it doesn't sound like an ailment that will keep him out long.

Reed tossed 1.1 scoreless innings in relief during Monday's 5-4 loss to the Pirates, but gave up a hit and walked three batters in the appearance.
EDGE Analysis
Reed maintains a spotless ERA through two appearances, but he'll need to improve his control in his subsequent outings to strengthen his case for replacing Fernando Rodney as closer. Rodney already has one strike against him after surrendering a walk-off home run Opening Day, but his long track record in the ninth inning will afford him a little more leeway before manager Paul Molitor seriously contemplates a change.

Reed will begin the season in a setup role for the Twins, Mike Berardino of the St. Paul Pioneer Press reports.
EDGE Analysis
Reed, who signed a two-year, $17 million deal with the Twins on Saturday, is a better pitcher than Fernando Rodney, but the narrative on Rodney is that he is best when the stakes are highest. Meanwhile, Reed has typically worked in a setup capacity over the past three seasons, notching only 24 saves in 212 appearances over that stretch. If Rodney struggles, Reed will be first in line to get saves, so he is still worth a late-round dart in single-season leagues.

Reed signed a two-year contract with the Twins on Saturday, Ken Rosenthal of The Athletic reports.
EDGE Analysis
Rosenthal added that Reed will receive slightly under $17 million over the two years. He will slide right into a late-inning setup role for the Twins, as the 29-year-old instantly becomes the top relief arm in the club's bullpen. During the 2017 season split between the Mets and Red Sox, he posted a 2.84 ERA and 1.05 WHIP over 76 innings. His 76:15 K:BB was phenomenal, but he did have some trouble with the long ball, as he compiled a 1.3 HR/9 after two straight seasons when he gave up one home run per 18 innings. Expect him to serve as the bridge to Fernando Rodney throughout the course of the 2018 campaign, although he will be a top candidate to take over the ninth-inning role should the soon-to-be 41-year-old falter.

Reed pitched a scoreless eighth inning in Friday's 4-1 win over the Yankees.
EDGE Analysis
Reed has been quite effective over the past two-plus weeks, having allowed one run (0.93 ERA) while striking out 11 over 9.2 innings. Included in that run are five holds and 4.1 scoreless innings against the Yankees, Boston's closest pursuer in the AL East. Reed's stabilized what has been at times an unsettled setup group.
