FOX Sports' Jay Glazer reports Packers FS Charles Woodson will miss six weeks with a fractured collarbone. Although Woodson's on-field performance has declined in his age-36 season, the Packers figure to keep him on their weekly inactives list rather than place the future Hall of Famer on year-ending injured reserve. Despite the fall-off in play from recent years, Woodson has graded out positively as a pass defender and particularly as a run defender according to Pro Football Focus. Transitioning to free safety from cornerback, Woodson has 38 tackles, 1.5 sacks, a forced fumble, and an interception through seven starts. In a best case scenario from the six-week timetable, Woodson would return in Week 14.

Coach Mike McCarthy estimated that Charles Woodson's role will change "somewhere between 6-8 percent than what he's played in the past." "We're not recreating the wheel," said McCarthy. "I would define him as a playmaker in our defense. So it's our responsibility to make sure he's in a position to make plays." Woodson revealed that he's already played plenty of safety in his Packers career, and the coaching staff has no intention of limiting him to one position in 2012. His top priority will continue to be forcing turnovers.

Charles Woodson reiterated that he is willing to move to safety in 2012. He'd likely play strong safety, with Morgan Burnett at free. "With Nick Collins leaving, [and if] they need me to play safety, I'm not opposed to that," said Woodson. "But I think that we have to make sure that cornerback position is going to be solidified." If second-round CB Casey Hayward looks ready to start in training camp, Woodson may end up switching positions.

Packers DC Dom Capers didn't rule out the possibility of Charles Woodson moving to safety in 2012. "It's not like it would be a radical move," said Capers. "We feel he could play any one of those positions and that's one of the things he brings to the table -- flexibility." Woodson would likely play strong safety, though the decision depends largely on Casey Hayward and Sam Shields' training camp play.

The Packers plan to keep Charles Woodson at cornerback in 2012. "The closer Charles is to the ball the more dangerous he is and more impact he has to the offense," said coach Mike McCarthy said at the NFL combine. "He's the most instinctive defensive player I've ever been around." Woodson played 70-75 percent of his 2011 snaps at slot corner, and that number may increase in 2012. The Packers will have to look elsewhere for a free safety.

Packers CB Charles Woodson is due a $4 million roster bonus in April. Woodson, who turned 35 in October, is due a combined $11.5 million in 2012, including bonuses and salary. While Woodson is still playing at a high enough level that his cap number isn't particularly prohibitive, it's at least fair to wonder if youth-focused GM Ted Thompson would ask him to take a pay cut. Woodson finished the 2011 regular season with 74 tackles and seven interceptions.

Packers coach Mike McCarthy said Monday that CB Charles Woodson (head) will "probably" be ready to play in Week 14. It sounds like Woodson avoided a concussion in the fourth quarter of Sunday's win over the Giants. He should be all systems go to face his former team, the Raiders. On the season, Woodson has two sacks, a forced fumble, and a team-high six interceptions. His career high for interceptions is nine, set in 2009.
