Packers released S Charles Woodson. Woodson broke the news via his wine company's Twitter account, and it was soon confirmed by his agent. "It's part of the business," Woodson's rep told NFL.com's Ian Rapoport. Woodson was due an untenable $9 million between salary and bonuses. The sides could consider re-upping on a cheaper deal, but Rapoport hints it's not being discussed at this time. Woodson was not playing at a high level before a broken collarbone cost him the final nine games of the regular season.

The agent for S Charles Woodson has yet to hear from the Packers regarding his client's future in Green Bay. Agent Carl Poston is "optimistic" Woodson will be retained for 2013, but it's no sure thing. Woodson is going on age 37 and owed $10 million in salary and bonuses. Theoretically, GM Ted Thompson doesn't have to decide Woodson's fate until late in the offseason. The Packers owe Woodson no significant sum until his $2.5 million roster bonus comes due on the first day of training camp.

The Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel reiterated that the Packers "probably will part ways" with Charles Woodson this offseason. Woodson's contract calls for $10 million in salary bonuses in his age-37 season. Much like LB A.J. Hawk ($5.45 million), Woodson's production no longer matches his contract. Both veterans are likely to be jettisoned as the Packers look to overhaul with more speed and size on defense.

Charles Woodson (collarbone) finally gained clearance for practice on Tuesday. Woodson was doing real defensive work on Tuesday rather being limited to the scout team. Sidelined since mid-October, Woodson will likely be ticketed for specific packages if he's active for Saturday's game versus the Vikings.

Charles Woodson (collarbone) will not return for Week 17. A disappointed Woodson had hoped that he'd be back in the starting lineup during the regular season, but team doctors have recommended that he remain on the sidelines. Woodson has maintained that he will play this season, but it's still unclear whether he'll return for the playoffs.

Charles Woodson (collarbone) has been ruled out for Week 16, but has steadfastly maintained that he will return to the field this season. "I don't feel like I have to play in (the regular-season finale), but it'd be great to just get out there and play football. Next week will kind of take care of itself and we'll see if I can get out there and run around a little bit," said Woodson. The 36-year-old Woodson also said that he fully expects to play next season. He has two years remaining on the five-year, $55 million extension he signed in September 2010.

Charles Woodson (collarbone) is not expected to be activated in time for Week 16 versus the Titans. "[Woodson]'s going to be pressed to make it back this week," said head coach Mike McCarthy. Woodson broke his collarbone in Week 7 and hasn't played since. He did put in a limited practice on Thursday, but M.D. Jennings is fully expected to start at free safety.

Charles Woodson (collarbone) will not return to practice this week and has been ruled out for Sunday. There was hope that Woodson would be back for the Packers' Week 15 divisional showdown with the Bears, but team doctors have deemed it in his best interest for him to continue rehabbing his injured collarbone. Owners in IDP leagues who were hoping to get Woodson back for the fantasy playoffs will have to look for other options.

Coach Mike McCarthy hinted that FS Charles Woodson (collarbone) could return for Week 15. Woodson has not been medically cleared off his fracture collarbone yet, but that could come this week. Then he'll spend some time getting his football legs back and integrating into the secondary. Before going down, Woodson was a free safety in the Packers' base defense and a slot corner in the nickel defense.

The Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel's Tom Silverstein believes "this is probably (Packers FS Charles) Woodson's last year with the team." Silverstein rightfully reasons that Woodson's scheduled 2013 salary of $9 million will be too odious for the Packers to pay a 36-year-old corner coming off a broken collarbone. Woodson's play has slipped, but not to the point that he shouldn't be counted on to contribute in 2013. If he's cut loose by Green Bay, he'll draw interest on the open market.
