Roberts signed a minor-league contract with the Athletics on Sunday. He will report to Triple-A Nashville and bat fifth for them in Sunday's game. It wouldn't be surprising if Roberts received a call-up at some point in the near future once he gets some at-bats under his belt with Nashville, but the Athletics probably aren't viewing him as an eventual everyday lineup solution at second or third base.

Evidently, Roberts saw the writing on the wall as far as his chances of making the Opening Day roster, and asked that he be allowed to seek an opportunity elsewhere. The 34-year-old went 7-for-32 (.219 average) with two walks and 11 strikeouts in 18 spring games.
