Greinke (1-13) took the loss against Pittsburgh on Monday, allowing two runs on six hits and two walks while striking out two batters over 4.2 innings.
EDGE Analysis
Greinke came out of the bullpen in a bulk-relief role his last time out due to the fact he was coming off an IL stint with an elbow injury and didn't log any rehab appearances. The veteran was back working as a traditional starter Monday, though he may have still been moderately limited since he threw only 76 pitches. Greinke didn't pitch particularly poorly, giving up just two runs over his 4.2 frames, but he was still tagged with the loss since the Royals were shut out by Pirates starter Johan Oviedo. It's been a rough campaign for Greinke in his 19th big-league season -- he's tied for second in the league with 13 losses (only teammate Jordan Lyles has more) and has picked up only one victory while registering a poor 5.28 ERA and 1.27 WHIP over 119.1 innings.

Greinke is scheduled to start Monday's game against the Pirates, Anne Rogers of MLB.com reports.
EDGE Analysis
Since Greinke didn't go on a rehab assignment prior to being activated from the 15-day injured list last Tuesday, the Royals elected to have him piggyback starter Angel Zerpa in their game against the Athletics that day. While making his first relief appearance since 2021, Greinke turned in one of his best outings of the season, striking out five while allowing two hits and no walks over four scoreless innings. He'll settle back into a more traditional starting role Monday, though because he was capped at 53 pitches his last time out, Greinke may not be asked to cover more than five or six innings in his return to the rotation.

Greinke allowed two hits and struck out five without walking a batter while striking out four over four scoreless innings Tuesday versus the Athletics.
EDGE Analysis
Greinke was also efficient, throwing 38 of 53 pitches for strikes in his first outing since Aug. 6. He was dealing with elbow soreness, but it looks like that's out of the way now. The veteran right-hander still sports an ugly 5.34 ERA, 1.25 WHIP and 78:15 K:BB through 114.2 innings over 23 outings this season. Greinke may still need a few more outings to build up his pitch count. He's projected for a home appearance versus the Pirates next week, but it's unclear if he'll start or work as a piggyback option again.

Greinke (elbow) was reinstated from the 15-day injured list ahead of his expected appearance Tuesday versus the Athletics.
EDGE Analysis
Greinke landed on the injured list Aug. 8 with right posterior elbow soreness. The veteran allowed five earned in his last outing, falling to 1-12 on the season. It is expected he will come out in relief of Angel Zerpa in Tuesday's game. With the 39-year-old's reinstatement from the IL, Dylan Coleman was optioned to Triple-A Omaha in a corresponding move.

Greinke (elbow) is expected to be activated from the 15-day injured list to pitch Tuesday against Oakland, Anne Rogers of MLB.com reports.
EDGE Analysis
The Royals have yet to determine whether Greinke will start or enter the game after an opener, but he'll be activated Tuesday assuming he checks all of the team's boxes, per Rogers. The veteran right-hander was placed on the 15-day IL on Aug. 8 due to elbow soreness and had racked up a 6.94 ERA, 1.20 WHIP and 12:2 K:BB in his previous five outings (23.1 frames).

EDGE Analysis

The 39-year-old Greinke has now allowed 23 home runs this season, including 13 in his last 10 starts. Greinke did not factor into the decision Tuesday, allowing one run on four hits over five innings against the Mets. He struck out three.
EDGE Analysis
Greinke allowed four hits for a third straight start Tuesday but managed to hold the Mets to one run over five innings of work. Over his previous eight starts (39.1 innings Greinke owned an 0-6 record, a 7.55 ERA and a 19:6 K:BB. so Tuesday's outing was certainly encouraging for the 39-year-old. He'll look to turn in another strong outing against the Phillies this weekend during his next projected start.

However, he added another tally in the loss column, allowing four runs including a pair of homers to nine-hitter Bo Naylor. Greinke now has 11 losses on the season, the second-most in baseball. Greinke (1-10) allowed two runs on four hits and two walks while striking out one over four innings to take the loss Thursday versus the Tigers.
EDGE Analysis
Greinke returned from a minimal stay on the injured list with right shoulder tendinitis, but the Royals seemed to take a cautious approach. The 39-year-old threw just 62 pitches (39 strikes) in the outing, going through the Tigers' order twice. He's now gone 12 straight starts without a win. For the season, Greinke has a 5.40 ERA, 1.30 WHIP and 65:15 K:BB through 96.2 innings over 19 starts. He's projected for a road start in Cleveland next week.
