Wilhelmsen (back) was placed on the 15-day disabled list Saturday, Bob Dutton of the Tacoma News Tribune reports.
EDGE Analysis
Reports surfaced Friday that Wilhelmson was dealing with a back issue that could warrant a DL stint, and Saturday's announcement confirmed that suspicion. The Mariners recalled first baseman Dae-Ho Lee from Triple-A Tacoma to fill Wilhelmsen's roster spot. With Wilhelmsen down, the Mariners have an extremely shallow bullpen corps that could need reinforcements in the coming days, however.

Wilhelmsen could be placed on the disabled list Saturday because of back soreness, the Seattle Times reports.
EDGE Analysis
Wilhelmsen gave up four runs in a third of a inning last Sunday and then was given a few days off because of a sore back. He pitched a scoreless inning Thursday, but was bothered by the back again Friday. Prior to his four-run implosion, Wilhelmsen had allowed three runs in 20 appearances (18.1 innings) since joining the Mariners on June 22 with a .197 BAA.

Wilhelmsen allowed four runs on four hits, including two home runs, in a third of an inning Sunday, blowing a three-run lead in the ninth inning.
EDGE Analysis
Wilhelmsen was used in a save situation because closer Edwin Diaz was unavailable and former closer Steve Cishek was used earlier in the game. Wilhelmsen gave up a leadoff homer and, after an out, a double and a two-run homer. He was pulled after another basehit, which scored after he was gone. The Mariners intend to give Diaz plenty of rest to keep him rest down the stretch, but they might want to avoid Wilhelmsen in the ninth after this meltdown.

Wilhelmsen recorded a pair of outs while working around a walk to earn his first save of the season Sunday versus the Angels.
EDGE Analysis
Starter James Paxton (elbow) was forced to leave the game in the ninth inning after being hit with a comebacker, leaving Wilhelmsen to finish the game off, as rookie closer Edwin Diaz had worked four out of five days heading into Sunday's contest. Diaz's stellar numbers appear to have earned him a tight grasp on the closer's role moving forward, meaning Wilhelmsen should pitch in a setup role in the vast majority of his appearances.

Wilhelmsen could be used in save situations when Steve Cishek needs rest, MLB.com reports.
EDGE Analysis
Manager Scott Servais said if Cishek works several games in a row, he could turn to Wilhelmsen to close a game. This doesn't necessarily mean Wilhelmsen has leapfrogged Joaquin Benoit as the closer in waiting, but Benoit hasn't pitched that well this season. Wilhelmsen has three scoreless appearances (2.1 innings) since joining the Mariners and has stranded all three of his inherited runners.

Wilhelmsen was recalled by the Mariners on Thursday, Greg Johns of MLB.com reports.
EDGE Analysis
The Mariners are making a change in the bullpen by bring Wilhelmsen back up to the big league club and sending fellow reliever Donn Roach back to Triple-A Tacoma. Wilhelmsen had a difficult start to the season, which explains his 10.07 ERA, but his June ERA through four appearances is a far more palatable 3.00 over six innings. He figures to work primarily in lower leverage situations, however, which limits his fantasy upside.

Wilhelmsen was optioned to Triple-A Tacoma on Friday.
EDGE Analysis
Following an unceremonious departure from Texas, Wilhelmsen agreed to return to Seattle on a one-year deal, although he ended up spending mere days with the big league club. Wilhelmsen tossed a scoreless inning with one hit allowed in his lone appearance with Seattle. He could return the next time the Mariners need a fresh arm.

Wilhelmsen made his Mariners debut Thursday with a scoreless inning of relief . He gave up a single and did not record a strikeout.
EDGE Analysis
The Mariners planned to send Wilhelmsen to Triple-A to work on his pitches, and they need a roster spot for Friday's starter Wade LeBlanc. But if Thursday starter Adrian Sampson goes on the DL after injuring his elbow in warmups, Wilhelmsen will stay with the team. Wilhelmsen is expected to pitch middle relief for the Mariners after flaming out with the Rangers this season.

Wilhelmsen agreed to a one-year deal with the Mariners on Wednesday, Bob Dutton of the News Tribune reports.
EDGE Analysis
Wilhelmsen recently turned down a minor-league offer by the Rangers. He has already has had space cleared for him on the 25-man roster, but he'll likely be relegated to the minors shortly and be used for bullpen depth. Wilhelmsen posted a 10.55 ERA in 21 appearances for the Rangers in 2016.

Wilhelmsen cleared waivers and has turned down an assignment to Triple-A Round Rock and will instead become a free agent, the Fort Worth Star-Telegram's Stefan Stevenson reports.
EDGE Analysis
He certainly hasn't pitched like a big league caliber reliever this year (10.55 ERA in 21.1 innings), but he notched 13 saves with the Mariners a year ago, so he probably still thinks of himself as a quality mid-to-late inning arm. Wilhelmsen has posted K-rates below 20 percent at both Triple-A and the big league level this season, so it's hard to envision him offering fantasy value anytime soon.
