Wilhelmsen recorded two outs via strikeout and walked a batter in Sunday's 2-0 win over the Rockies in 13 innings.
EDGE Analysis
Wilhelmsen seems to have turned a corner since allowing three runs in an appearance April 12 against the Giants. In his subsequent seven outings, he's covered 6.1 innings, giving up just one run and scattering six hits and one walk. Fernando Rodney's hold on the closing job has seemingly loosened over the past week, and while Wilhelmsen would likely rank as one of the top replacement options given his prior experience saving games, he still may find himself behind the high-performing J.J. Hoover in the pecking order.

Wilhelmsen was tagged for three runs on two hits and two walks in just two-thirds of an inning Wednesday in Arizona's 6-2 loss to the Giants.
EDGE Analysis
The veteran reliever managed to get the first two outs of the seventh inning relatively quickly, but then a wild pitch, a passed ball, and two extra-base hits ultimately turned what initially seemed to be a sharp outing into a poor one. Prior to this implosion, Wilhelmsen hadn't allowed a run since his appearance on Opening Day, but now his ERA sits at a rough 9.00 mark.

Wilhelmsen's contract was selected Tuesday by the Diamondbacks, indicating that he has won a spot on the team's Opening Day roster.
EDGE Analysis
Wilhelmsen earned his place in the Diamondbacks bullpen through his excellent work in spring training, during which he limited opposing batters to a .103 average over 9.1 innings. It wasn't all gravy for the hard-throwing right-hander, however, as Wilhelmsen conceded five walks. Nonetheless, in a bullpen lacking high-impact arms, Wilhelmsen could have an opportunity to carve out a meaningful role if he's able to reign in his control, which he struggled to do in 2016. Over 46.1 innings between the Mariners and Rangers, Wilhelmsen submitted a 6.80 ERA and 3.7 BB/9 rate over 46.1 innings.

Wilhelmsen signed a minor league deal with the Diamondbacks that includes an invite to major league spring training
EDGE Analysis
The veteran righty was DFA'd earlier in the offseason, but the Diamondbacks have recently been adding some arms as non-roster invitees with pitchers and catchers set to report in the coming days. He was hit hard as a member of the Rangers and Mariners in 2016 with a 6.80 ERA and 1.71 WHIP over 46.1 innings, but he's just one year removed from a campaign where he posted a 3.19 ERA and 1.37 WHIP. If Wilhelmsen can recapture his 2015 form, he should have a chance to make the Opening Day roster given the club's struggles in the back end in recent years.

Wilhelmsen was released by the Mariners on Tuesday.
EDGE Analysis
The Mariners released him after he cleared waivers. He was pretty awful in 2016, posting a 6.80 ERA and 28:19 K:BB in 46.1 innings with the Rangers and Mariners. He will likely look to secure a minor league contract with an invite to spring training from a team in need of bullpen depth.

Wilhelmsen was designated for assignment by the Mariners on Friday, Greg Johns of MLB.com reports.
EDGE Analysis
He turns 33 next month and is coming off his worst season in the majors. Wilhelmsen's numbers were better with Seattle after leaving Texas, but his 5.07 FIP suggests he overachieved in his return to the Mariners. The right-hander will now be subjected to waivers.

Wilhelmsen (back) was activated from the 15-day DL on Saturday.
EDGE Analysis
This was anticipated after he threw a successful simulated game earlier in the week and has now served the minimum 15 days on the DL. Wilhelmsen should work in a middle inning role over the final three weeks of the season.

Wilhelmsen (back) expects to return from the disabled list Saturday, Greg Johns of MLB.com reports.
EDGE Analysis
The veteran reliever has been limited to just 43 appearances this season, but it appears that he'll be back for the final push once he returns from the DL on Saturday. He threw a simulated game that reportedly went well, so now all Wilhelmsen and the Mariners need is for him to wait the requisite time for him to be eligible for a return.

Wilhelmsen (back) threw a simulated inning Thursday, Bob Dutton of the Tacoma News Tribune reports.
EDGE Analysis
Wilhelmsen was pleased with his pitch quality and didn't feel any pain during Thursday's workout. Following Thursday's throwing session, it seems likely that the 32-year-old reliever will be coming off the DL in the near future. Prior to being placed on the disabled list on Aug. 27, Wilhelmsen had built a hefty 7.02 ERA and 1.71 WHIP over 43 games.

Wilhelmsen (back) will throw a simulated inning Thursday, MLB.com's Greg Johns reports.
EDGE Analysis
Wilhelmsen made it through a 25-pitch bullpen session Tuesday without issue, and he is ready to face live hitters again. He could be ready to rejoin the Mariners if he is able to again avoid any setbacks during Thursday's outing.
