Victorino (calf) was activated from the DL on Friday, the Providence Journal's Tim Britton reports. While he is not in the lineup Friday, look for Victorino to see a good amount of playing time in right field going forward. He should share time with Alejandro De Aza, but if the Red Sox want to showcase Victorino it would make sense if he was used as the primary option in the short term.

Victorino (calf) is unlikely to rejoin the Red Sox before Friday, and the team wants to see him play back-to-back rehab games in the outfield before he is activated, the Providence Journal reports. Victorino has played four rehab games thus far, tallying four hits in 13 at-bats. He figures to return during the Red Sox's eight-game homestand to close out the first half, possibly as soon as Friday against the Astros. The once-crowded Boston outfield has been hamstrung by injuries and poor play, so Victorino should have a significant role. At the very least, he'll be a regular presence in the lineup against lefties and will also get some playing time versus right-handers.

Victorino (calf) began his rehabilitation assignment Wednesday night, going 0-for-2 while playing five uneventful innings in right field for Triple-A Pawtucket. The plan calls for Victorino to play again Thursday for the PawSox. The Red Sox are not putting a timetable on his rehab, but manager John Farrell told the Providence Journal that it's unlikely he joins the team on its next road trip which lasts through July 2. Farrell wants to see Victorino play nine innings on multiple and consecutive days.

Victorino (calf) will begin a rehab assignment at Triple-A Pawtucket on Wednesday, Scott Lauber of the Boston Globe reports. Victorino has been gradually increasing his activity since hitting the DL nearly a month ago, and he made it through baserunning drills over the weekend without issue. It's unclear how long the veteran's rehab stint will last, but the struggling Red Sox are unlikely to rush him back.

Victorino (calf) will do some base-running drills over the weekend and be further evaluated, the Boston Globe reports. Victorino has been on the verge of heading out on a rehab assignment for, it seems, the past two weeks, but the Red Sox continue to take it slowly with him. And really, there should be no rush. Boston has several bodies looking for at-bats in right field -- Rusney Castillo and Brock Holt head that list. Also, if the Red Sox continue to slosh around below .500, it makes little sense to give plate appearances to Victorino when guys like Castillo or Jackie Bradley could use them for development.

Victorino (calf) could begin a rehab assignment by the end of the week, Tim Britton of the Providence Journal reports. The Red Sox have been cautious with Victorino's calf injury, so it would seem he is nearly back at 100 percent if he is set to begin a rehab assignment shortly. Boston's outfield is still plenty crowded, so Victorino's role upon his return is uncertain.

Red Sox manager John Farrell said they are trying to get Victorino (calf) "through the final stages of physical testing" and have delayed the outfielder's rehabilitation assignment, the Boston Globe reports. Farrell said those final stages includes additional intensity and a lot of change-of-direction. The Red Sox are taking it slow with Victorino, who's been on the disabled list since May 24, and had tentatively planned to get him out on rehab early this week. Victorino needs to prove he can be a full-time player, capable of playing several days in a row without setback.

Victorino (calf) will need "to prove to us that there's the ability to go nine innings a couple or three days consecutively," said manager John Farrell about an impending rehab assignment for the outfielder, the Boston Herald reports. Victorino could be sent out on assignment early next week, but Farrell sounds as if they'll take it slow with the oft-injured outfielder. He's been out since May 24 with a strained calf and had one other DL stint prior to this one.
