Vogelsong (neck) will play catch today after being pulled from Wednesday's rehab outing due to neck soreness, Stephen J. Nesbitt of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reports.
EDGE Analysis
Vogelsong left Wednesday's Triple-A rehab outing after four innings because of neck soreness, completely unrelated to the eye injury that's kept him out of action since May. He was expected to come off the DL Saturday but because of his neck issue, he'll be sidelined a few more days as he works out the kinks. If all goes well when he plays catch, he'll likely not require another rehab outing and could be activated early next week.

Vogelsong (eye) will throw a side session Sunday and make another rehab start next week, possibly Wednesday for Triple-A Indianapolis, the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reports.
EDGE Analysis
The righty threw six innings of shutout ball for Double-A Altoona on Friday. Vogelsong was making just his second start in 12 appearances May 23 when he was struck in the eye by a pitched ball while batting. He'll likely serve as an innings-eating reliever upon his return.

Vogelsong (eye) will make a second rehab start for Doulbe-A Altoona on Friday.
EDGE Analysis
Vogelsong allowed three earned runs on six hits over five innings in his first rehab start Sunday and is now set to take the mound again. It will be interesting to see how the Pirates choose to use the 38-year-old when he returns to the majors as he's been largely used as a reliever in the majors this season. The righty will reassume a 3.74 ERA and 1.48 WHIP over 12 appearances when he makes his return to the big leagues.

Vogelsong (eye) will throw a bullpen Thursday, Bill Brink of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reports.
EDGE Analysis
Vogelsong threw simulated games Tuesday and Friday, and will toss a bullpen in anticipation of returning to the club shortly after the All-Star Break. The right-hander has been out since May 23 and had surgery to repair multiple facial fractures in early June. In addition to Vogelsong pitching a bullpen, fellow Pirates hurler Gerrit Cole (triceps) will also throw a bullpen Thursday.

Vogelsong (eye) is expected to throw a simulated game Tuesday, Bill Brink of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reports.
EDGE Analysis
Vogelsong has been out since suffering multiple fractures after taking a line drive to the head May 23. As he was placed on the 60-day DL, he won't be eligible to return until July 23, but unless he is able to start a rehab stint within the next week or so, a return later in July or in early August is more likely.

Vogelsong (eye) threw a successful simulated game on Friday, Adam Berry of MLB.com reports.
EDGE Analysis
Vogelsong has been throwing bullpen sessions this past week and took another step forward Friday by completing a simulated game. The 38-year-old was hit in the face by a pitch on May 23 resulting in several fractures but has been working his way back to full health steadily since then. He figures to begin a rehab assignment in the coming weeks with a potential return to the majors following the All-Star Break.

Vogelsong (eye) is expected to throw a simulated game Friday in Oakland, Stephen J. Nesbitt of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reports.
EDGE Analysis
Vogelsong was able to throw a bullpen session Tuesday, and it appears the next step in his progression will be a simulated game Friday. The veteran right-hander had posted a 3.74 ERA before being placed on the 60-day DL on May 23. He is still not expected to be ready to return until late July.

Vogelsong (eye) threw off of the slope on the front of the mound Wednesday, Adam Berry of ESPN.com reports.
EDGE Analysis
The Pirates' head athletic trainer Todd Tomczyk has described Vogelsong's recovery as "remarkable" so far. The 38-year-old appears to be improving, but he will still likely be out until late July.

Vogelsong (eye) said his vision has returned to 20-20, and he's now hoping to return from the 60-day DL when eligible July 23, freelance Giants writer Andrew Baggarly reports.
EDGE Analysis
Vogelsong was hit in the face by a pitch during a May 23 spot start against the Rockies, resulting in him suffering fractures to his orbital bone and some swelling. He required surgery to address the injury and seems to be healing well, as he's already resumed throwing. Vogelsong appeared to be the next man in line for a rotation spot prior to suffering his injury, but with big-time prospect Jameson Taillon since getting promoted to the Pirates and another well-regarded Triple-A arm in Tyler Glasnow perhaps on the way, Vogelsong may have to settle back into a long-relief role upon returning.

Vogelsong was moved to the 60-day DL on Saturday, Stephen Nesbitt of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reports.
EDGE Analysis
The move is essentially a formality, as it allows the Pirates to free up a spot on the 40-man roster. Vogelsong remains out indefinitely after undergoing surgery earlier in the week to repair facial fractures.
