Madson (finger) is getting his sprained finger analyzed in Arizona, Chelsea Janes of The Washington Post reports.
EDGE Analysis
Madson has been experiencing recurring pain in his finger, so the Nationals decided to send him to a specialist to figure out the severity of the issue and how to proceed with treatment. He's been sidelined since Aug. 17 due to the injury. More should be known once the results of his visit are disclosed.

Madson played catch Saturday and said he was still experiencing pain in his sprained finger, Jorge Castillo of The Washington Post reports.
EDGE Analysis
Madson's finger is still bothering him despite having been shut down from throwing since Monday. He's now waiting to find out the next move in his rehab, at which point there will hopefully be an updated timetable for his return. The Nationals aren't expected to rush their setup man back however, given their healthy lead in the NL East.

Madson will test his sprained finger Saturday after being shut down from throwing since Monday, Jorge Castillo of The Washington Post reports.
EDGE Analysis
If the pain he's been feeling in the top knuckle of his right index finger has subsided, Madson should quickly be able to return to his setup role in the Nats bullpen, but the team won't rush him back into action with a 14-game lead in the NL East and a playoff spot all but locked up already.

Madson was placed on the 10-day disabled list with a sprained finger Thursday, Mark Zuckerman of MASN reports.
EDGE Analysis
The Nationals activated fellow reliever Shawn Kelley in a corresponding move Thursday, but this is still another blow for Washington as Madson has been a revelation since joining the club. Madson had thrown 9.0 scoreless frames with a 0.67 WHIP with the Nationals prior to his injury. A timetable has yet to be released for Madson's return, but he may not be back until early September.

Madson appears to have a suffered an injury to a finger on his throwing hand, Chelsea Janes of The Washington Post reports.
EDGE Analysis
Although the club initially believed that Madson was dealing with a blister, it has become apparent that the right-hander is being plagued by a different issue. The Nationals will likely know more about Madson's status within the next few hours prior to Wednesday's game against the Angels, but he should be considered day-to-day until more information becomes present.

Madson (4-4) struck out two in a perfect eighth inning Thursday to get the win in a 3-2 victory over the Marlins.
EDGE Analysis
The veteran righty has been outstanding in a setup role for the Nats since they traded for him -- Madson has yet to give up a run in eight innings with a 13:1 K:BB, and he has two wins and four holds in his eight appearances. With Sean Doolittle ably handling ninth-inning duties, Madson likely won't see many save chances, but his numbers still carry fantasy value in deeper formats.

Madson (3-4) allowed a single hit and struck out a batter in a scoreless eighth to record the victory Wednesday against Milwaukee.
EDGE Analysis
The veteran righty was the beneficiary when the Nats exploded for seven runs in the eighth inning, and Sean Doolittle then gave up three runs the following frame in a non-save situation. That's good news for fantasy owners who plucked Madson off the wire in search of saves -- he's been stuck behind Doolittle in the pecking order since the two came to D.C., but if the latter has another rough outing or two, it wouldn't be surprising to see Dusty Baker make a change in his management of the ninth inning.

Madson threw a scoreless eighth inning in Tuesday's win over the Angels. Meanwhile, Sean Doolittle pitched the ninth inning to record a save.
EDGE Analysis
It was assumed Madson would take over as the closer after both pitchers were acquired in a trade from Oakland, but Doolittle got the first save chance. It's possible both pitchers could get save chances, but this isn't encouraging for Madson's near-term fantasy value.

Madson and Sean Doolittle, who were acquired from the Athletics on Sunday, won't join the Nationals until Tuesday's game against the Angels in Anaheim, Dan Kolko of MASN Sports reports.
EDGE Analysis
With the Nationals' road game Monday against the Reds beginning at 12:35 p.m. EDT, Madson and Doolittle wouldn't have had much time to make the trip from the West Coast, so the relievers' team debuts will have to wait. To address the lack of available arms out of the bullpen, the Nationals purchased Jacob Turner's contract from Triple-A Syracuse. Nationals general manager Mike Rizzo offered some interesting insight into the Nationals' acquisition of Madson and Doolittle in an interview Monday with Jim Bowden of Sirius XM MLB Radio, acknowledging that Madson was the club's primary target before Doolittle was worked into the mix as part of an expanded deal. With that in mind, Madson rather than Doolittle could get the first shot at filling the team's void at closer, which has been a problem area for the Nationals all season.

Madson was shipped to the Nationals along with fellow reliever Sean Doolittle on Sunday, Ken Rosenthal of FOXSports.com reports.
EDGE Analysis
Madson and Doolittle will bring enormous help to Washington's struggling bullpen as the A's snag Blake Treinen, Jesus Lazardo and Sheldon Neuse in the return portion of the deal. Looking ahead, Madson should help anchor a late-inning role after delivering an exceptional fist half of the 2017 season with Oakland, posting a 2.06 ERA with a 0.79 WHIP in 40 appearances. His 39:6 K:BB while allowing just 0.5 HR/9 should translate even better to the Senior Circuit, and allow Madson to take a key spot in the bullpen as the Nationals make their push toward the playoffs.
