Hernandez (2-3) held Oakland to two runs on seven hits and two walks with three strikeouts over six innings in Monday's 6-4 win. All three of Hernandez's strikeouts came in the first inning after issuing a lead-off walk to Coco Crisp. The veteran right-hander tossed 105 pitches (67 for strikes), but was able to best Sonny Gray in a match up of AL West division rivals. Hernandez will face a difficult test for his next start Sunday at Detroit.

Hernandez (1-3) allowed four runs on six hits and three walks with no strikeouts over 6.1 innings Thursday, but didn't factor into the decision against Toronto. Hernandez allowed back-to-back home runs to Jose Bautista and Edwin Encarnacion in the first inning, but the veteran right-hander settled down afterwards and pitched effectively until he ran into trouble again in the seventh inning. He'll carry a 4.12 ERA into his next scheduled start Tuesday against Oakland.

Hernandez pitched well Saturday night, going 7.2 innings while allowing two runs on six hits in the 2-0 loss to the Angels. Hernandez was just one out shy of a complete game Saturday and he would have stayed in if he didn't hit Mike Trout with a pitch in the 7th inning. Hernandez will look o build off this strong start when he hosts Toronto next Thursday in an off-limits matchup for fantasy.

Hernandez (1-2) allowed five runs -- four earned -- on eight hits and two walks with a strikeout over six-plus innings Sunday, but didn't factor into the decision against the Mariners. Hernandez was actually in line for the win through six innings before allowing three straight hits to open the seventh without recording an out. The veteran right-hander was lifted for Astros reliever Tony Sipp, who failed to hold his inherited runners and allowed Seattle to tie the game after they were down 6-2 to start the inning. Hernandez may have a difficult time turning around his fortunes in his upcoming nod Friday against the Angels in Anaheim.

Hernandez allowed three runs on six hits and a walk while striking out six over six innings Tuesday at San Diego to earn his first win of the season. Hernandez (1-2) has been efficient in three of his four starts this season and sits on a 3.80 ERA, 1.14 WHIP and 16:7 K:BB ratio over 23.2 innings. He'll make his next start Sunday at home against the Mariners.

Hernandez allowed three runs on six hits and a walk with two strikeouts over seven innings Wednesday night against the Mariners, but took the loss to fall to 0-2 this season. Seattle did all their damage against Hernandez early in the game, scoring one run apiece in the first, third and fourth innings. The veteran right-hander cruised from the fifth through seventh innings, however, facing the minimum number of batters while the Astros tried to get back into it. While Houston fell short in the 3-2 loss, Hernandez pitched well on the road against a division rival. He'll carry a 3.57 ERA into his next scheduled start at San Diego on Tuesday.

Hernandez pitched 4.2 innings in the loss to the Rangers Saturday. Hernandez gave up five hits and five runs, with only one earned run. He struck out two batters while walking four. When Brett Oberholtzer returns from a finger injury, Hernandez's position in the rotation could be in jeopardy.

The Astros officially called up Hernandez on Saturday. He'll open the year in the rotation with Brett Oberholtzer on the 15-day DL. He got the nod over Dan Straily, who was optioned last week, and Alex White, who was designated for assignment Saturday.

Hernandez pitched well in his most recent Grapefruit League start on Saturday, permitting just one run on three hits and two walks with a strikeout over five innings against Miami. Hernandez expressed optimism that he'd win the Astros' fifth starter competition, but Asher Wojciechowski (1.08 ERA in 16.2 Grapefruit League innings) has outperformed the nine-year veteran this spring. Wojciechowski has minor league options remaining, however, and the Astros most likely want to gain an extra year of control on him by starting him in the minors to open 2015. Houston must let Hernandez, a Rule 20B free agent, know whether he has made the team or not by noon on Tuesday.
