Porcello made his Grapefruit League debut Sunday, giving up two runs on four hits while striking out one over three innings against Tampa Bay.
EDGE Analysis
Porcello gave up a pair of solo home runs but was pleased to finally test himself against major-league hitters. "The same things I try to work on every spring: get comfortable with my delivery, feel the things I want to feel with that, get to executing pitches - that was my goal today," Porcello told Mark Feisand of MLB.com. "I felt like I did a pretty good job of that. They hit the two home runs and a couple other balls that were hit hard, but the location on those pitches were halfway decent. I'll look at that and go from there, but overall, it was good." Until now, he's been getting his work in during bullpens, live batting practice sessions and simulated games. There's enough time left in spring training for Porcello to get three more starts before the regular season gets underway March 28.

Porcello is scheduled to make his spring debut Sunday against the Rays, Chris Cotillo of MassLive.com reports.
EDGE Analysis
The Red Sox have held their stop starters back from spring competition, preferring they get their work in on the backfields and in batting practice. Porcello will be the first of the rotation's top four starters to take the mound. The right-hander brings a five-pitch mix to every start, so he can change up when one of the pitches isn't working. Porcello posted a 4.28 ERA in 33 starts last season.

Porcello has been testing out a two-seam changeup grip that he learned from Eduardo Rodriguez this spring, Alex Speier of The Boston Globe reports.
EDGE Analysis
Porcello already counted a changeup as part of his arsenal, throwing the pitch 11.7 percent of the time last season, though it's hardly been a weapon and has graded out as a slight negative or worse in three of the last four seasons. Rodriguez's changeup, on the other hand, has graded out as his best offering over the course of his four-year career. There's no guarantee that the pitch will work out for Porcello, but an improved arsenal could potentially help him stand out from a large group of steady but unspectacular starters. He'll test the tweaked offering out for the first time this spring when he makes his Grapefruit League debut Sunday versus the Rays, per Peter Abraham of The Boston Globe.

Porcello gave up four runs on seven hits with one walk over four innings in a no-decision against the Astros in Game 4 of the American League Championship Series. He struck out three.
EDGE Analysis
Porcello worked in and out of trouble through his four innings of work, but ultimately two long balls from George Springer and Tony Kemp sealed his fate in Game 4. The right-hander allowed one run, no walks and five hits in his first three appearances of the postseason, but this outing raises his ERA to 7.20.

Porcello will start Game 4 of the ALCS against the Astros on Wednesday, Hunter Atkins of the Houston Chronicle reports.
EDGE Analysis
Porcello will get the ball for Game 4 after firing a scoreless inning of relief during Boston's victory over Houston in Game 2. In his only start this postseason, the right-hander held the Yankees to just one run through five innings en route to the win Game 4 of the ALDS.

Porcello will make his next start in Game 4 of the ALDS against the Yankees, Michael Silverman of the Boston Herald reports.
EDGE Analysis
Porcello was originally in line to start Game 3 on Monday night, but the Red Sox will instead give him an extra day to rest and prepare for his start. Nathan Eovaldi will take the hill Monday, leaving Porcello to face off with CC Sabathia on Tuesday to either clinch the series or avoid elimination from the playoffs.

Porcello allowed no hits and a walk in two scoreless innings during Sunday's 10-2 win over the Yankees. He struck out two and did not factor in the decision.
EDGE Analysis
Porcello didn't have great command as only 22 of his 40 pitches were for strikes, but he wasn't in the game long enough to cause any issues. The Red Sox used seven relievers to finish the game, each throwing a single inning. The 29-year-old finishes the regular season with a 4.28 ERA, 1.18 WHIP and 190:48 K:BB over 191.1 innings.

Porcello allowed four runs (three earned) on eight hits and two walks while striking out a season-low one batter over five innings, taking a no-decision against the Indians on Saturday.
EDGE Analysis
Porcello was pitching for the first time in a week and didn't look rusty, but didn't get the results we normally see from the right-hander. The Indians did a better job with runners in scoring position than Boston did. Porcello, who has pitched a staff-high 189.1 innings, will get one more pre-playoff start Friday at home against the Yankees.

Porcello (17-7) picked up the win Saturday against the Mets, allowing three runs on two hits and one walk across five innings. He struck out five.
EDGE Analysis
Porcello was sharp through three innings but stumbled in the fourth, allowing a single and a walk before serving up a three-run homer to Brandon Nimmo. He responded with a scoreless fifth inning, and the Red Sox posted four runs in the bottom half of the frame to put him in line for the win. The right-hander was pulled after the fifth inning with the Red Sox looking to limit his innings down the stretch to keep him fresh for the playoffs. Porcello now owns a respectable 4.30 ERA, 1.16 WHIP and 187:45 K:BB across 31 outings (184.1 innings) this season. Next up will be a road start against the Indians.

Porcello will be limited to five or six innings in his start Saturday against the Mets, Pete Abraham of The Boston Globe reports.
EDGE Analysis
The Red Sox are limiting their starters' workloads with the top seed all but clinched in preparation for their playoff run. Porcello's ceiling will take a small hit, though he hasn't reached six innings in any of his last four starts, so the limit isn't likely to have a very large effect.
