Ken Rosenthal of FOXSports.com reports that the Rockies are no longer interested in the Phillies' Placido Polanco. The Rockies had some interest in Polanco when it was revealed that the Phillies would be willing to part with him, But, they've determined that Polanco isn't able to play second base anymore, and that's the position the Rockies would want him at. The Phillies are expected to hang on to Polanco if they are able to re-sign Jimmy Rollins.

The Phillies are only interested in trading Placido Polanco if they can't re-sign free-agent shortstop Jimmy Rollins, reports ESPN.com's Jayson Stark. If the Phillies re-sign Rollins, their intention is to keep the current infield intact. Were Rollins to skip town, however, Philadelphia would look to use that allocated money to add a significant bat, likely free-agent third baseman Aramis Ramirez. Polanco is owed $6.25 million next year, with a $1 million buyout of his $5.5 million option for 2013. He posted a weak .277/.335/.339 slash line in 122 games this year while battling dual hernias.

Placido Polanco is expected to be ready for opening day after undergoing double hernia surgery this offseason. This confirms earlier reports that Polanco is fully on schedule to return next season. The Phillies have stated that they remain committed to him for 2012, but his effectiveness coming off multiple injuries remains to be seen. He'll look for a bounce back year after hitting just .277/.335/.339 in 122 games this season.

Placido Polanco is making a steady recovery from his October double sports hernia surgery. "Polly should be ready for spring training," Phillies manager Charlie Manuel said this week. "He said he'll definitely be ready to go." The veteran third baseman batted just .277/.335/.339 in 122 games this season while battling the dual injuries. He'll look to bounce back in 2012.

Phillies manager Charlie Manuel indicated Wednesday that the club should seek an upgrade at third base this offseason. "If we need to upgrade and we can, we should do it," said Manuel. Polanco was limited to just 122 games this season due to a variety of injuries and underwent double sports hernia surgery earlier this week. The 36-year-old third baseman is under contract for $6.25 million next season with a $5.5 million team option or $1 million buyout for 2013, so while a trade looks unlikely, the Phillies should at least be in the market for a reliable backup this winter.

Placido Polanco underwent double sports hernia surgery Tuesday in the Philadelphia area. It's no wonder he struggled so mightily down the stretch. Polanco should be fully recovered by the time spring training opens next season, but it's fairly clear by now that he's in the twilight of his career.

Placido Polanco will undergo an MRI to evaluate a sports hernia. Polanco dealt with the injury for the final two months of the season. It has been assumed all along that he'll get the hernia operated on after the season, and that's probably still the case, but we'll know for sure after the MRI. Polanco had an injury-plagued, disappointing season that saw him bat just .277/.335/.339 with five homers over 122 games.

Phillies manager Charlie Manuel insists Placido Polanco is healthy enough to play despite a nagging sports hernia injury. Polanco is just 2-for-16 in the NLDS series against the Cardinals to this point. "If I didn't think that he was able to play, he wouldn't be in the lineup," Manuel said. "But I think he definitely wants to play, and he's able to play. He's struggling right now, but at the same time, he might just come out [on Friday] and have a big day." Polanco will need offseason surgery to correct the hernia, but in the meantime, he'll gut it out.

Phillies manager Charlie Manuel thinks Placido Polanco is still affected by a previous sports hernia. Polanco struggled this season after a hot April, and is 0-for-8 in the Phillies' NLDS matchup with the Cardinals. Still, he's Philadelphia's best option at third base and is likely to continue playing through the discomfort through the end of the postseason.

Phillies activated 3B Placido Polanco from the 15-day disabled list. Polanco will return to the Phillies' starting lineup on Monday evening against the Mets. The veteran third baseman is expected to undergo offseason surgery to repair his sports hernia, but he's been cleared to play through the discomfort for now.
