Taveras is out of the lineup Friday against the Rockies. Taveras appears to have the everyday role again in right field for the most part, but will sit Friday with the left-handed Jorge De La Rosa on the mound for the Rockies. Randal Grichuk will start in right field and bat second for the Cardinals in his place.

Taveras started in right field and went 1-for-3 with a two-run homer in Saturday's win over the Brewers. Now in an ongoing battle for playing time as part of the Cards' outfield mix, Taveras' two-run shot off of Kyle Lohse in the fourth inning stood as the eventual game-winning tally. Although his .230/.273/.311 line thus far has been a disappointment, Taveras could quick move to the front of the line for the starts in right field if he heats up during the stretch run.

Taveras remains out of the lineup Thursday against the Brewers, FOX Sports Midwest reports. Manager Mike Matheny will ride the hot hand of Peter Bourjos in center field, with Jon Jay in right for a second straight day. Taveras, meanwhile, is sitting for the sixth time in nine games and his opportunities will likely remain limited, as the Cardinals can ill afford to let him continue working through his struggles with the division up for grabs.

Taveras is out of the lineup for Game 1 of Saturday's doubleheader against the Cubs. Taveras has started all but one of the Cardinals' last 12 games, and he's finally rewarding the club for its patience, going 12-for-42 (.285 average) over that span. With a lefty in Felix Doubront on the hill for Game 1, Taveras will head to the bench, but he will likely be in there for Game 2 even with another lefty (Tsuyoshi Wada) penciled in to start for Chicago.

Taveras is out of the lineup Wednesday against the Pirates. Taveras has been unable to get his MLB career out of neutral, as the talented outfielder is batting just .233/.272/.306 over 191 plate appearances and hasn't shown any notable signs of improvement in recent weeks. His starting job in the outfield isn't in jeopardy yet, but he could begin to lose at-bats more regularly if he doesn't start picking things up. Randal Grichuk will spell him in right field for Wednesday's series finale.

Taveras went 2-for-4 with a double and an RBI on Sunday. Taveras appears to be clicking at the plate more recently, recording hits in eight of the last nine games. His numbers over the period have jumped as well. Tavares' batting line was .211/.252/.289 after the game Aug. 15 but sits at .238/.279/.314 following Sunday's contest. He should continue to receive consistent playing time in right field as the team chases a playoff berth into September.

Taveras returned to the lineup Saturday night and went 2-for-4 with an RBI in the Cardinals' loss to the Padres. Taveras has been underwhelming in his callup, hitting .219/.258/.301 in the majors this season. Prior to sitting out of the lineup Thursday and Friday, Taveras did have an extended run of starts, so it's harder to blame sporadic playing time from manager Mike Matheny as it was earlier in the season.
