The Braves reinstated Markakis (personal) from the restricted list Wednesday.
EDGE Analysis
After informing the Braves on July 6 that he intended to opt out of the 2020 season, Markakis reversed course just over three weeks later and reported to the team's alternate training site to resume workouts. Now that Markakis has had the past week to ramp up, the Braves will add him back to the active roster, giving the team another left-handed bat in the outfield. Markakis could fill more of a part-time role in 2020 than he has in seasons past, but he should still garner enough playing time to have some utility in NL-only and deeper mixed leagues.

Markakis (opt out) will be reinstated from the restricted list, David O'Brien of The Athletic reports.
EDGE Analysis
Markakis has reportedly changed his mind about playing during the abbreviated 2020 campaign after initially opting out. Per O'Brien, Markakis has been cleared to work out with the team, so he'll train at the team's alternative camp site until he's ready to be officially reinstated. Once he's back with the Braves, the veteran outfielder should see semi-regular at-bats between the outfield and DH spots, especially against right-handed pitchers. Across 116 games last season Markakis hit .285/.356/.420 with nine home runs.

Markakis has decided to opt out of playing this season, Gabe Burns of The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports.
EDGE Analysis
Markakis becomes the latest in a growing number of players to decide not to play during the ongoing coronavirus pandemic. Markakis had been in line to fill a fairly large role in left field this season, with Marcell Ozuna expected to spend time as the designated hitter. His decision opens up more at-bats for Adam Duvall as well as offering another spot in the lineup for Austin Riley and Johan Camargo, who were expected to compete for time at third base.

Markakis could see significant action this season on the strong side of a platoon with Adam Duvall, Mark Bowman of MLB.com reports.
EDGE Analysis
When Atlanta signed Marcell Ozuna over the winter, it seemed as though Markakis would be pushed to the bench. With NL teams now deploying a designated hitter for 2020, however, it opens the door for Markakis and Duvall to platoon in either left field or DH, wherever Ozuna isn't. Austin Riley could also factor into the LF/DH mix, but Markakis' steady numbers and veteran approach at the plate since joining Atlanta in 2015 make the 36-year-old the most likely player to benefit from the additional spot in the batting order.

Markakis has slashed .235/.222/.353 through 17 plate appearances this spring.
EDGE Analysis
The veteran outfielder heads into 2020 in a reserve role following the offseason addition of Marcell Ozuna to the Atlanta roster. Markakis could be better suited to the bench at this stage of his career anyway -- he played in only 116 games last year due to injury, only the second time since his rookie 2006 campaign that he played fewer than 155.

Markakis signed a one-year, $4 million contract with the Braves on Monday, Ken Rosenthal of The Athletic reports.
EDGE Analysis
The 35-year-old missed just over a month in 2019 with a fractured wrist, but still recorded a .285/.356/.420 slash line with nine home runs and 62 RBI. Markakis showed that he is still able to get on base consistently last season, and his fantasy production is helped by hitting in the heart of the potent Braves lineup.

Markakis went 2-for-4 with two doubles, two RBI, a walk and a run scored in Tuesday's loss to the Royals.
EDGE Analysis
Markakis put the Braves on the board in the fourth inning with a run-scoring double before picking up another RBI in the fifth inning with a walk -- his first free pass since returning from the injured list earlier in the month. The outfielder added another double in the eighth inning, eventually coming around to score on an error by third baseman Hunter Dozier. Markakis is now slashing .324/.333/.412 with four runs and five RBI in eight games since returning from a fractured wrist.

Markakis is not in the lineup for Saturday's game against the Giants.
EDGE Analysis
Not every Braves regular is out Saturday, but several are after the team clinched its second straight division title with a win Friday. Ronald Acuna will slide over to right field to cover for Markakis as Billy Hamilton mans center.

Markakis went 1-for-4 in a 7-0 loss to the Nationals on Sunday.
EDGE Analysis
Markakis mustered one of only four hits on the day for the Braves, wrapping up a mostly productive weekend after he was reinstated from the injured list Friday. The 35-year-old immediately reclaimed an everyday role in left field in his return from the fractured left wrist, starting all three games versus Washington and going 7-for-13 with a double, three RBI and two runs.
