Pelfrey could make another start, though the White Sox can use a day off to skip his next turn through the rotation, but savvy fantasy players should understand he's not in a good position to succeed.

Pelfrey is guaranteed $8 million in the final season of his two-year contract, but even a roster spot isn't a sure thing at this point, as the loser of the Boyd/Sanchez battle could snag a bullpen spot as a long reliever.

Pelfrey retired all nine batters he faced in Sunday's spring training win over the Mets, and he displayed increased velocity, MLive.com reports.

This was a much-needed outing for Pelfrey, who had allowed eight earned runs in his previous six innings pitched this spring. Tigers manager Brad Ausmus said the veteran increased his velocity to 93-94 mph, and commended the control he had over his pitches. Pelfrey is still unlikely to crack the Tigers' rotation, and even earning a bullpen spot is in doubt, but performances like this do help the cause.

Starting in place of an injured Michael Fulmer, Pelfrey allowed six hits and five earned runs in 2.1 innings in Monday's spring training loss to the Orioles.

Pelfrey cruised through the first two innings, then allowed hits to five of the six Baltimore batters he faced in the third.
