Pelfrey (0-1) allowed four runs (two earned) on four hits and one walk while striking out one over 4.1 innings in Saturday's 7-0 loss to the Indians.
EDGE Analysis
The 33-year-old Pelfrey, who was filling in for the injured James Shields (shoulder), was not in an enviable position. As a late addition to the organization -- he signed in early April -- Pelfrey had been getting his pitch count up a Triple-A Charlotte. When the big-league club needed an arm, instead of burning one of their prized pitching prospects, the White Sox added the veteran right-hander to the 40-man and had him facing the American League's defending champs. Considering Chicago's hitting woes -- after Saturday's game, the White Sox ranked next-to-last in average (.211) and OPS (.615) -- it added up to an utterly predictable loss. Pelfrey could make another start, though the White Sox can use a day off to skip his next turn through the rotation, but savvy fantasy players should understand he's not in a good position to succeed.

Pelfrey has been called up to make a spot start for the injured James Shields on Saturday, J.J. Stankevitz of CSN Chicago reports.
EDGE Analysis
The White Sox already had an extremely thin rotation thanks to an injury to Carlos Rodon. That the White Sox are turning to Pelfrey here shows their desperation. Pelfrey has posted a 4.97 ERA and 1.59 WHIP over the past four seasons, and he should be seen as purely an innings eater in Chicago.

Pelfrey signed a minor-league contract Wednesday with the White Sox, Jon Heyman of FanRag Sports reports.
EDGE Analysis
The White Sox were lacking in rotation depth heading into spring training, and that was only magnified further once Carlos Rodon (biceps) succumbed to an injury in spring training that forced him to the disabled list. As a result, Pelfrey was added to help address that deficiency, but he'll have to prove his worth with Triple-A Charlotte before getting a look in the big-league rotation. Dylan Covey would seem most vulnerable to losing his spot in the rotation if Pelfrey is eventually added to the big-league roster.

Pelfrey is close to signing a contract with the White Sox, Jon Heyman of FanRag Sports reports.
EDGE Analysis
Pelfrey came up short in his bid for a rotation spot with the Tigers in spring training and was ultimately granted his release, but it looks like he'll find a home in the American League Central after all. Despite the fact that Pelfrey was lit up for 15 runs in 17 innings during spring training, the White Sox are thin on starting pitching depth with Carlos Rodon (biceps) on the disabled list and believe the veteran lefty amounts to an upgrade over the unproven Dylan Covey, who is currently penciled in as the team's fifth starter. Assuming he's able to consummate a deal with the White Sox, we could see Pelfrey make his first start with the Pale Hose as soon as next week.

Pelfrey was unconditionally released by the Tigers on Thursday.
EDGE Analysis
Pelfrey had been competing for a role in middle relief, but his $8 million guaranteed salary wasn't enough to keep him on the roster. He tossed 17 innings this spring, and although he struck out three, the right-hander posted a 7.94 ERA. Pelfrey has made 235 starts in his career, but at this stage, the 33-year-old will likely see a bullpen role wherever he catches on.

Pelfrey said he is prepared for any role the Tigers give him, Jason Beck of MLB.com reports.
EDGE Analysis
"Start, relieve. You want me to pinch-run? I'll do that, too. I don't care," Pelfrey said. "I just want to play. I want to be on the team. I want to pitch. Whatever they tell me, I'll do it." This is a good move on Pelfrey's part, as it appears Matt Boyd or Anibal Sanchez will win the No. 5 spot in the rotation. Pelfrey is guaranteed $8 million in the final season of his two-year contract, but even a roster spot isn't a sure thing at this point, as the loser of the Boyd/Sanchez battle could snag a bullpen spot as a long reliever.

Pelfrey retired all nine batters he faced in Sunday's spring training win over the Mets, and he displayed increased velocity, MLive.com reports.
EDGE Analysis
This was a much-needed outing for Pelfrey, who had allowed eight earned runs in his previous six innings pitched this spring. Tigers manager Brad Ausmus said the veteran increased his velocity to 93-94 mph, and commended the control he had over his pitches. Pelfrey is still unlikely to crack the Tigers' rotation, and even earning a bullpen spot is in doubt, but performances like this do help the cause.

Starting in place of an injured Michael Fulmer, Pelfrey allowed six hits and five earned runs in 2.1 innings in Monday's spring training loss to the Orioles.
EDGE Analysis
Pelfrey cruised through the first two innings, then allowed hits to five of the six Baltimore batters he faced in the third. Tigers manager Brad Ausmus said the team's pitching has been "awful" this spring, and Pelfrey has been part of the problem, as he's now struggled in consecutive outings. He's on the outside looking in at a rotation spot, and he might end up not even making the roster in a relief role.

Pelfrey said he was "terrible" in Wednesday's spring training start against the Nationals, in which he gave up two runs in 1.2 innings, the Detroit Free Press reports.
EDGE Analysis
Pelfrey struggled with command, as he needed 51 pitches to record five outs. "Obviously, I was terrible today," Pelfrey said. "I just wasn't very good." In particular, he said he wasn't locating his cutter, which is a pitch he worked on in the offseason. At this point, it doesn't look like Pelfrey will crack the Tigers' rotation to begin the season.

Pelfrey will follow Michael Fulmer on the mound in Friday's spring training game against Baltimore, Jason Beck of MLB.com reports.
EDGE Analysis
Pelfrey is battling for a spot in the rotation this spring, but he's likely behind Daniel Norris and Matt Boyd for the final two spots. Pelfrey could establish himself as a viable long relief candidate, however. He's slated to throw about 30-35 pitches on Friday.
