Athletics manager Bob Melvin said Minor will be available to pitch out of the bullpen in Friday's game against the Padres before joining the rotation Sept. 8 to start one half of a doubleheader with the Astros, Martin Gallegos of MLB.com reports.
EDGE Analysis
After striking out 200 hitters and submitting a 3.59 ERA a season ago, Minor took a big step back through his first seven starts with Texas in 2020, posting a 5.60 ERA and a 1.36 WHIP in 35.1 innings. The downturn in performance made Minor an affordable target for the Athletics prior to Monday's trade deadline, but the team hasn't officially decided whether he'll be a solution in the rotation or if he'd be a better fit as a multi-inning arm out of the bullpen. At least in the short term, Minor looks poised to make a couple starts with the Athletics, who will temporarily implement a six-man rotation with a slew of doubleheaders on the docket beginning next week.

Athletics general manager David Forst said Monday that the newly acquired Minor could pitch out of the bullpen at some point this season, Martin Gallegos of MLB.com reports.
EDGE Analysis
Forst said that Minor will get some starts with the A's scheduled to play multiple doubleheaders in the weeks ahead, but he noted that the veteran left-hander could later serve as a relief arm if needed. The 32-year-old's role will likely ultimately depend on how he fares in his first few outings with his new club, though the team's decision-making will also depend on how the rest of Oakland's staff performs in the near future.

The Athletics acquired Minor from the Rangers on Monday in exchange for two players to be named later, Jeff Passan of ESPN.com reports.
EDGE Analysis
After Cleveland shipped Mike Clevinger to San Diego earlier in the day, Minor may have become the next-best starting pitcher aside from Dylan Bundy left available on the open market leading up to the 4 p.m. ET trade deadline. Minor emerged as a frontline member of the Texas rotation after racking up 200 strikeouts in 2019, but the drop in velocity he's experienced this season has prevented him from taking full advantage of Texas' more pitcher-friendly ballpark in 2020. Even though his season ERA and WHIP sit at a disappointing 5.60 and 1.36, respectively, Minor has still struck out nearly a batter an inning while generating groundballs at a 39.3 percent clip, so he at least has some potential to turn things around as he moves on to Oakland. Prior to the trade, Minor had been lined up to start Thursday, so he could make his Athletics debut in the team's series finale in Seattle that day.

Minor allowed four hits and three walks while striking out six over six scoreless innings in Friday's no-decision against the Dodgers.
EDGE Analysis
After averaging fewer than five innings over his first five starts, Minor lasted six innings for a second straight appearance. The left-hander picked a great time for his best start of the season. Minor becomes a free agent in the offseason and with the Rangers expected to be sellers at Monday's trade deadline, he put up an attractive outing for potential suitors. Minor is on schedule to throw next Thursday at home against Houston if he remains with the Rangers.

Minor (0-5) gave up four runs on five hits and a walk while striking out four over six innings in a loss to the Mariners on Sunday.
EDGE Analysis
All four of the runs against Minor came on homers by Kyle Lewis, Austin Nola and Sam Haggerty. It's the second start in a row where Minor has allowed multiple hits to leave the yard. He had a 6.75 ERA, 1.40 WHIP and 29 strikeouts in 29.1 innings this season. The 32-year-old lefty lines up to face the hard-hitting Dodgers on Friday.

Minor (0-4) surrendered six runs on nine hits across 3.2 innings to take the loss Tuesday against the Padres. He had six strikeouts and one walk.
EDGE Analysis
The strikeout total was the only positive for the left-hander versus the Friars, as he gave up two homers and a double while recording only 11 outs on 86 pitches. Minor is off to a rough start in 2020 with a 6.94 ERA, 1.50 WHIP and 25:9 K:BB through 23.1 innings, and he'll hope to get back on track next time out Sunday in Seattle.

Minor does not expect to have a pitch count when he takes the mound Tuesday against San Diego, T.R. Sullivan of MLB.com reports.
EDGE Analysis
Minor experienced diminished velocity in his first three starts, which prompted the Rangers to limit him for his fourth outing. "No limitations," Minor said. "If something happens where the velocity drops, obviously we'll adjust but going into the start, no limitations." He was effective in his last outing, throwing 76 pitches over four scoreless innings. His fifth start comes on an extra day of rest.

Minor didn't factor into the decision in Tuesday's contest between the Rangers and the Mariners. He pitched four scoreless innings, allowing one hit and three walks while fanning four.
EDGE Analysis
Minor tossed 76 pitches (46 for strikes) Tuesday as the Rangers wanted to decrease his workload due to fatigue reasons, and the move seemed to pay off -- Minor tossed his best start of the season after going 0-3 with a 6.83 ERA in his first three outings. The left-hander should remain in the rotation ahead of his next scheduled start at home against the Padres on Aug. 17, although he could be in line for another low-pitch count against one of the league's hottest offenses in 2020.

Minor will likely have a reduced pitch count when he makes his next scheduled start Tuesday against the Mariners, T.R. Sullivan of MLB.com reports.
EDGE Analysis
Minor, who is 0-3 with a 6.83 ERA in his first three starts, has been dealing with fatigue and decreased velocity. The Rangers discussed the possibility of skipping a turn but instead decided on another course of action.

Minor (0-3) lost his third straight start Thursday, giving up five runs on four hits and two walks while striking out six over five innings against Oakland.
EDGE Analysis
The game started well for Minor, who retired nine of the first 10 batters with a fastball that clocked in at normal 92-93 MPH. But he hit a wall in the fourth when the Athletics worked him over for four runs. The left-hander managed to get out of the fifth without any more damage, but Minor was done after 83 pitches -- 15 fewer than his previous outing. The coaches became concerned when they saw his fastball drop to 88-89 MPH, T.R. Sullivan of MLB.com reports. "I had the long inning and then came out for the fifth. I started warming up, and it's been like that the past couple of games, where I felt I hit a wall," Minor said. "Velocity was down. That's when I came back in, and they asked me how I felt. I said, 'I feel fine, I just don't have any gas in me.' I felt fatigued." Minor lugs a 6.89 ERA into his next start Tuesday at home against Seattle.
