Marlins signed C Miguel Olivo. Olivo was released earlier Thursday by the Reds after he failed to crack their Opening Day roster, but he landed on his feet quickly as the backup in Miami behind Rob Brantly, at least until Jeff Mathis returns. The 34-year-old batted .222/.239/.381 with 12 home runs and 29 RBI in 87 games for the Mariners last season.

Reds released C Miguel Olivo. Reports have indicated that the Marlins are interested in acquiring Olivo to be their backup catcher. The 34-year-old batted .222/.239/.381 with 12 home runs and 29 RBI in 87 games for the Mariners last season.

The Reds have made Miguel Olivo a $100,000 retention bonus in hopes that he will report to Triple-A Louisville. Olivo lost out to Devin Mesoraco for the Reds' backup job, but the club is hoping he'll stick around as depth. It's possible he'll be able to find a major league job as a backup somewhere else, though.

Reds signed C Miguel Olivo to a minor league contract with an invitation to spring training. CBS Sports' Jon Heyman reported earlier Friday that the deal was close, and now it's official. Since it's a minor league deal, it doesn't necessarily mean Devin Mesoraco will begin the year at Triple-A, as Olivo could be the one sent down. The 34-year-old backstop batted .222/.239/.381 with 12 home runs over 87 games with the Mariners last season.

Jon Heyman of CBSSports.com reports that the Reds are close to signing Miguel Olivo. Heyman says Olivo also received interest from the Phillies, Astros and Dodgers, but the Reds are "finalizing" a deal for the catcher. With Olivo on board, that presumably means Devin Mesoraco will begin the season at Triple-A. Olivo, 34, has some pop but batted just .222/.239/.381 with 12 home runs and a .620 OPS in 87 games with the Mariners this past season.

ESPN New York's Adam Rubin reports that Miguel Olivo is the Mets' top target among free agent catchers. Olivo, 34, batted just .222/.239/.381 with 12 home runs and a .620 OPS in 87 games with the Mariners this past season, but the Mets rate him higher than other right-handed hitting catchers like Chris Snyder and Matt Treanor. Of course, that's not saying much. They are also not interested in possible reunions with the likes of Kelly Shoppach, Rod Barajas and Jesus Flores. It's still possible the Mets could land a catcher in a trade.

Joel Sherman of the New York Post reports that the Mets are "eyeing" impending free agent Miguel Olivo this offseason. The Mets were in on Olivo at the trade deadline before eventually acquiring Kelly Shoppach, who is not expected to return. The 34-year-old posted a woeful .239 OBP this season, which was the worst for someone with 300 plate appearances since 2008. But, Olivo does have some pop, having put up seven straight seasons with at least 12 home runs. The Mariners last week declined his $3 million option for 2013.

Mariners declined C Miguel Olivo's $3 million club option for 2013. Olivo will get a $750,000 buyout instead and will hit the free agent market five days after the conclusion of the World Series. The 34-year-old backstop batted just .222/.239/.381 in 323 plate appearances this season. He'll likely have to settle for a backup job in 2013.

Miguel Olivo went 2-for-4 with a two-run homer in Friday's 6-3 win over the Rangers. With Seattle nursing a 4-3 lead, Olivo took Alexi Ogando deep in the eighth. His 12th home run of the season was his second in three games, and third of the month. Nice, but not exactly enough to soften his brutal .210/.228/.366 slash. The Mariners are extremely unlikely to exercise Olivo's 2013 team option.

Miguel Olivo ripped a solo homer in Wednesday's win over the Blue Jays. It was his lone hit on the night. It's been a pretty typical year for Olivo, as he's gone deep 10 times while batting just .215. He also missed three weeks of action earlier this season with a groin injury.
